Well, i saw her do it to a img who came of a room late, but it was really really late, and the img chick just started apologizing and groveling. i think thats what they wanted me to do, but i'm sorry, i didn't hear the announcement, to me that's not a shoving offense.

Mine was under warranty too (and still is for another few months) so it hasn't costed me anything to get this stuff fixed. And the condo complex is still under construction so there is always someone around to fix stuff during the day - none of this "8am to 5pm" bullcrap.

I also took a look at Oriental vs. Persian rug images. I would like to be able to say that I could tell by looking which were Oriental and which were Persian in origin, but rugology is quite beyond me.

I think Persian patterns tend to be more repetitive of the same theme - but I might be wrong.

Yeah, I don't know how the rental market in MSP is but trying to get a place just one week prior to move-in could be tough. I would try to sign a lease sometime before you leave...lots of residents and incoming med students are probably looking for places to live now. If you wait too long, you may be SOL and have to settle for a place that is less desirable.

I don't really know. My understanding was that it went out of fashion for historical reasons (i.e. it just sounds antiquated) versus being offensive per se.

I actually don't mind the use of the word "Oriental". It is more definitive, compared to "Asian" which to my mind is like a trash-basket (I'm one myself, which is why I can say this 😀 ).

Seems that it is more frequently used to describe inanimate objects than people now.

I saw a british TV show last night (w/ Rowan Atkinson 👍 ) that was mocking the use of the term African American. It's just a dumb term to interchange with black because not all black people in America are from Africa (many are Carribean)and, as yaah pointed out, not all people of African birth or decent are black.

Canadians are not as preoccupied with race as we are here. They would say black. But it's kind of like saying you have a certain haircolor. It's not much more than a descriptor.

Off-campus housing seems to have these amazing deals for 1-BR furnished pads, but the possibility of living with undergrads as neighbours makes me shudder.

actually today was kind of hectic. today was the last of the deadlines prior to closing--the final mortgage commitment letter was due today. i was promised that this would be provided to me yesterday. however, for a variety of reasons, the underwriters needed other loose pieces of documentation to finally sign off on a final commitment letter that lacked conditions. anyways, to make a long story short, the letter was finalized at 4:10 pm today which gave me 50 minutes to scramble and fax the letter to various parties such as my broker, the seller's broker, my attorney, and the seller's attorney.

this whole process is very inefficient. different people with different documents. faxes going in all different directions. *sigh*

it's all good now. everything is set and i fly to boston on the 17th to sign the closing papers. now i just gotta make sure that i don't miss my flight and nothing funny happens before then.

We're getting a zero-down loan, so we are just paying the run of the mill closing costs. We are getting money out of the house we are selling, but we are keeping it as transition money while my husband switches careers. He needs better hours SO I CAN BECOME THE GREATEST PATHOLOGIST IN THE WORLD!!!
