I CALLED TODAY, 7 schools, some info about interviews

hey peeps

I am an august mcater and i havebeen almost 2 months complete at the schools i called today.....here is what i got from them


1. BOSTON UNIV

the lady told me that interviews go through mid february and that I would need to get notice by sometime next week if I will be awarded an interview there....if not, i guess i am ****ED hehe

2. LOYOLA in Illinois

the lady was really nice....first off....she told me that my personal application has undergone review by the admissions committee 2 TIMES!! and that they didnt award me an interview.....BUT she said that I have ONE more opportunity in January for my last review to see if they wil give me an interview....gosh I must not be liked if they looked at me 2 times and put me back into the pile 😕

3. TUFTS Univ

she just told me that my application is under review and that they have interviews all the way into April...so who knows!

4. NEW YORK UNIVERSITY AKA NYU

they were quite nice as well, quite suprised...she told me that inteviews go into MID FEBRUARY and that they dont necessarily need to be scheduled one month in advance....so i guess there is still hope!

5. UC IRVINE

gosh they are SOOOOOOOOO UNHELPFUL....shes like well what does the internet say.....and im like well it hasnt changed from pending review for 2 months now!.....she didnt help, sadness

6. UC SAN DIEGO

she was nice too, she said that she was going to take my application for review by the end of this week....whatever that means

7. UC San Francisco

the woman scared me ****less, so i didnt ask anything hahahahaha

I got word from Stanford today that they won't be making decisions on August MCAT'ers until mid-February.

so does the mean your UCSD application hasn't even been reviewed yet???? i mean, it's january......so they hadn't put you on hold yet?

yep camstah...i was complete since Nov 14th.. and I didnt even get put on hold.......which is weird.....gosh they are slow

well, that can be good news!! i mean, if you were already put on hold, then that would mean they had looked at your app...and decided not to give you an interview "at this time"....but since they haven't, then there's a chance for an interview soon....see?

thanks, that made me feel a little better.
i think they probably did put me on hold but haven't updated their website maybe? who knows for sure. does anyone know the lag time between a cali med school invite and actual interview date? like invited feb but interview date in april? some of my out of state interviews have been scheduled like 2-3 months in advance!!! i am afraid that even if i get interviews in ca, it will be the last date of interviewing or too late.😕

I have been waiting for Loyola and I didn't think to just call them up and ask them "how'm I doin'?"

Maybe now I will, considering what the OP said above. I'd rather just KNOW fer' Chissakes rather than anxiously check the mailbox like I did (no lie) 6 times today, because I was home from work.

they won't be making decisions on August MCAT'ers until mid-February.

I wonder if this is true of some other schools on our list.

Most places I call say something like "You're under active consideration but I cannot tell you over the phone whether or not you'll receive an interview."

Obviously, some schools have reciprocated to august mcat'ers, but it seems like very few people have heard from Harvard, Hopkins, Wash, Duke, and Stanford to name a handful.

Wonder if these schools are still working on the early birds.

Decisions for interviews won't be made until mid-February... but hell, by that time, they will probably only be choosing the uber-elite applicants for interviews.

has anyone called the 2 NJ medical schools?
do they even notify you if your application is complete b/c i have not heard JACK.

i think it would be useful if everyone who has called a school could list it here, at least let the rest of us know what the situation was there. some of us still need hope!

ok i grew some balls and called both NJ schools to ask if my app was complete, and they both are. RWJ was nicer than NJMS, but both equally helpful. then i chickened out before i could ask if i was under review or whatnot. i guess they dont freely offer that information!

I heard back from RWJ for my interview rather quickly. I sent in the application fee, and not even two weeks later I recieved the interview letter. It surprised me, because I had sent NJMS's fee form in before RWJ and I hadn't heard from NJMS.

So yesterday, because I was starting to feel entirely too anxious listening to people go on and on about acceptances, I called NJMS. The woman was really nice and had told me that my mailing to set up the interview date was in the mail, and that I didn't have to wait for it to come, I could set up the date right then.

I would say NJMS took about four weeks to screen my completed file, while RWJ was very quick at getting back to me.
