Hello,

I'm just about finished with my pre med classes and half way thorough, I'd decided to change schools. The school I'd originally thought of applying to required Anatomy 1 and 2 in place of biology. I now see that most schools require biology and NOT anatomy. If I have taken everything with the exception of biology (with anatomy 1 and 2 in place of bio), will they place a hold on acceptance or flat out turn me down until I take bio? I really don't want to spend another year in school taking bio if I don't have to! Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I am trying to figure out how you were allowed to even take anatomy before taking bio, because it is usually a pre-rec...But some schools may differ. To answer your question, yes you have to take biology. I had a friend with a similar situation but did it over the summer.

Prereqs are usually non-negotiable. Completion of Bio 1 & 2 will be required by most schools prior to matriculation. You could take bio 1 & 2 within half a year (summer + fall or spring). If u really want to get it over with that bad, and u have at least 2 schools within driving distance, try taking bio 1 @ school A and bio 2 @ school B (as a non-degree seeking student) simultaneously. You could look into getting a prereq waiver from the Bio department @ school B if need be.

Either way it's totally doable.

Depends on the school. Some will not look at your app until all pre-reqs are complete.
Only way to find out is to contact the individual schools.

Some schools may accept the anatomy class...it is "a" biology course, after all. However, I think you've made a couple of mistakes.
1) just did the minimum and didn't really take biology even though you'll need it to understand med school material, IMHO. It will also help you with the MCAT, if you haven't take it yet.
2) just looked at the admissions requirements for 1 or 2 med schools, assuming you'd have a decent shot to get into a particular 1 or 2 schools. That's not a good way to do the application process, unless perhaps you are married with kids, such that you are immobile/can't possible move to go to med school. A lot of people apply to 15 or 20 schools just to increase the chance they'll get in somewhere...at least 7-12 if you are serious about getting in somewhere.
