I was wondering what everyones' opinions are in my situation. I am very positive that I want to go to pharmacy school. I am taking all the prerequs now for MCPHS - Boston. However, I was wondering if I should wait it out and get a degree in Chemistry or Biochem and a minor in a foreign language such as Spanish. Or should I just go straight to MCPHS after this year?

I have a 3.59 gpa right now and everyone I know is telling me to relax and try to stretch out my years in college before entering the real world. However, I want to also get it done and over with. What do you guys think?

I'm the same way. My advisors and friends tell me to slow down. I understand that it's good to stretch things out and be more secure but part of me wants to finish school. For this year's cycle, i'm only applying to USN. If I don't get in I'll continue with my undergrad and get my BS.

If I were you, I'd get your BS. The main reason is you have a lot more options if you decide you don't like pharmacy. Or even if you do like pharmacy but decide you want to get a law degree or PhD as well, that would be a lot easier if you have a BS.

Also, it seems to me as if more and more schools are looking more positively on having a BS in the application process. That's just my opinion, but having more classes under your belt can't hurt you in pharmacy school.

I myself am currently in grad school, and I was sure research was for me when I started. I had prepared: I had worked a couple summers at a pharmaceutical company, and I also worked for a whole year in a lab on my campus. But I figured out real soon that research wasn't for me and wanted a different career. You probably will love pharmacy, but you really don't know until you get there. I'd get your BS to be safe. Besides, you can enjoy college life (and the many breaks in your day and your year) a bit longer.

Quoted for truth. I am pursuing a BS in biochemistry. IMO BS>BA...but both, i think, give you a leg up over people who just did their pre-reqs.

what I fear about slowing down is that I am afraid that pharmacy will be even more competitive than it already is now and I may not even get a chance. But I'll most likely settle down and get a degree in biochem now. But I will apply to MCPHS for this year only
