"I can't think of a single reason why I should be a doctor but I can think of a thousand reasons why I should quit. They make it hard on purpose. There are lives in our hands. There comes a moment when it's more than just a game, and you either take that step forward or turn around and walk away. I could quit, but here's the thing. I love the playing field.

Cool italics bro.

This quote is pretty absurd. If my doctor said that, I would never go back to him again.

Had to Google this. Why are you quoting Grey's? I thought you were House obsessed. Mr. Laurie would not approve of your filthy traitor ways, sir.

I actually kinda like the quote...
Sometimes I think I'm going into it for all the wrong reasons...but I just can't picture myself doing anything else with my life.

"I can't think of a single reason why I should be a doctor... I love the playing field".

You sir, have just found your first reason.

Jesus. That quote makes me incredibly glad I have never seen a single episode of Grey's. What ****ty writing.

You haven't said anything worth replying to, nor have you even posed a question. You simply put a random quote up. What kind of responses do you expect to get?

Dude, aren't you in High School? Its not like you're a third year med student that is 130,000 in debt that realized that medicine doesn't fit you. You're not a resident working 30 hour shifts (well, 26 now as per the new rules) or an attending that is burnt out...

My "stories" or the OP's? I just made up some situations.

However, I can't possibly fathom how high school students or college students for that matter can say, "I'm sick of medicine. Should I pick something else?" They haven't even gone through anything!

Cool story bro.

ROFL  That quote is so emo. I love it. It's so laughable when you actually know a little bit about medicine. Luckily, the "lives" of most patients are not in the hands of most doctors. I guess you could kill a lot of these patients if you weren't careful...if that counts...but it's just not quite so emo feeling. The vast majority of doctors spend their careers fighting strep throat and throwing meds at 70-year olds with diabetes and cataracts.

Can't wait to have you as my doctor.

I wanted to complain about you bumping this thread, but I love that one guy with a House reference in his username, avatar, and signature is poking at another guy who has a House reference in his username, avatar, and signature. And who is currently quoting Grey's.

Ok...for the benefit of anyone who is legitimately having this problem and is not merely quoting from prime-time television:

It's ok if you don't know what you want to do in high school. If you're interested in medicine, no one expects you to have an answer at that stage. In college, many people who start out as Premedical change their minds because they decide that medicine is not for them. This may happen to you, too. The important thing is to have an open mind and pursue what interests you. Once you've done that and it happens to be the case that your interests fall on medicine, you will find your own reasons for doing it. This should be nothing to worry about while you're still in high school.

Lame greys quote.

Btw why are you so obsessed with House? and become a doctor?

Because the idea of identifying with a fictional character is, in some way, a defense mechanism to subtract from the rigors of everyday life for some people. A lot of socially awkward, stupid atheist young twenty-somethings or teenagers identify a lot with House in order to convince themselves that it's because no one understands them, not because they're idiots. It's similar to a forty year old overweight housewife going through a five year dry spell to read romance novels and identify with the female in it so she doesn't wind up killing herself out of dry vagina syndrome.

Yes, I understand the irony of having a fictional character as my avatar. No, I don't identify with him. If I really identified with anyone it'd probably be with some bland and boring character like Foreman off House.
