I didn’t know about the “white/light blue” shirt with black or gray suit rule til now. How badly will this affect my chances?

As far as interviews, I knew about no black shirt and obviously that a tie was needed, but I guess I didn't know fully about what to wear.

My ERAS photo is of me in solid darkish blue shirt and blue striped tie. And I did my first interview in the same shirt with a gray striped tie. Yesterday, my dad tipped me that I should wear a light colored shirt. I looked it up and apparently we don't just need a light colored shirt, but a white or sky blue shirt, and the tie is supposed to be solid colored, which surprised me because I've thought it's solid shirt and patterned tie all my life.

My ERAS picture is the same blue shirt I did the interview with so hopefully that same shirt isn't a dealbreaker for the interview that I did.

How badly will this affect the interview I already did? And, if I change my eras photo to something with proper colored clothes, would that help today?

You’re fine. It’s subliminal messages but also makes you forgettable imo. Some of the most memorable candidates I’ve interviewed are those that had TASTEFUL attire.

Ive been wearing a gray shirt and breast cancer awareness pink tie to every interview. Take a few breaths. Is a program that doesnt rank you over the color of your tie a program you really want to be at?

It is traditional and looks good, but it's not anything to worry about. The only issue is for virutal interviews is to avoid patterns like finechecks, stripes and herringbones. On camera, these patterns will “vibrate” and be distracting.

Black suits look best with a white shirt and thin black tie. And a black fedora, with shades. Bonus points if you look like John Belushi or Dan Aykroyd. Double bonus points if you bring your musical instrument and start jamming at the interview. (Triple bonus points if you get the interviewer and random folks walking by to do a flash mob dance with you).
