I've noticed that several schools have English Lit as one of their academic requirements, but I don't have it. I'm done with school (completed a master's Aug. 2003), work full time, and am a single mother. I really don't want to have to take an English lit class right now. Is anyone else in this same boat? Are some schools willing to waive the English Lit requirement?

FYI: I did email all the schools that this was an issue with. I'm just curious if anyone else has had this problem, and what their outcome was.

Thanks all!! Take care.

I never took English Lit. I applied, and I got into some Osteo schools. None of the school I applied to denied me because I didn't have the course so far. I still haven't heard from bunch of allo schools though. I hope someone else will have a better answer.

No english lit... if the school does not allow you to waive the requirement, check colleges with online classes for the winter break. The classes will probably start next week so maybe you can cram one in. Know it sucks, but that is a possible solution.

how can you get a bachelor's degree without english lit?

*EDIT: My college required 2 semesters of English Composition & 2 semesters of English Literature to earn a B.S. or B.A. in the College of Arts & Sciences. This is obviously not true at all schools.*

I never had to take English lit, either. I had to take two writing composition classes. This was at a major university, so I'm pretty sure that writing comp must be accepted in lieu the english lit requirement. At least it was never an issue at any of the schools I applied to (never even noticed the requirement 😀 ).

Bringing this thread up from the dead...

Anybody apply to NSUCOM without the English Lit requirement, or get it waived?

In addition, which schools require english lit?

Are you sure they specifically want "English Literature," and not just any English course...creative writing, film, poetry, composition, etc.?

Sorry, this is not helpful.

Unfortunately, they require 3 credits of English Literature in addition to English writing...

If I don't have this requirement and did not schedule to take it, can I still apply with the intention of taking it if I am accepted to the school? I am graduating in the fall but do not have the time to take it. I could take it in the Spring if I had to...

I was required two composition courses and a speech course. No lit. I have had a ton of German lit in english and German.....I wonder if I could weasle that in for the credit if I had to.

I still haven't taken Physics II, and I was told that I could still apply and be accepted with the understanding that I take physics prior to matriculation and get a C or better. I would imagine it's the same for English. Good luck.

I remember when I would have given anything not to take English Lit. I was so nervous about getting a good grade in that class because I felt that I just wouldnt be could at it, and giving an effort would seem too much work......, It turned out to be one of the coolest classes Ive taken, (my teacher was awesome) and I really enjoyed the course. Plus the difficult reading helped my practice mcat VR scores go up. 👍:luck:

I applied having only taken freshman composition (ENGL 015 for you penn staters). After realizing my mistake, I contacted the schools which told me that if I was accepted, it would be contingent upon my successful completion of another 3.0 credits in English lit or composition.

In my experience, every school that mattered for me accepted this route...WVSOM, CCOM, and PCOM.

Didn't you need English 202 insert letter as well? I never took english 15 there due to a high school course..but I still had to take 202D...sucked my will to live but the teacher was hot.
