I don't understand TFE WTF is this

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
did you try CrackPAT?
CrackPAT has 3D figure in their explanation
when I do TFE I try to picture the 3D structure quickly in my head
there are some problems you can get by just counting lines
but some of the questions need to have a picture
CrackPAT is good because it was 3D pictures to help you

line counting is a good method but not an absolute one

go to the "my wicked sick pat tutorial" on sdn and read it over and over until you can get used to looking at the front view while actually looking at the end view. It takes a lot of practice. Line counting will not work on real dat.

What do you mean it does NOT work? Doesn't it help narrow down the choices?

It's just too tedious. There were 1 or 2 questions I used line counting for, but only because the question's possible answers were all very similar and had many small lines/protrusions.

More often than not you will be able to narrow down the answer without line counting and instead by seeing very obvious different or missing parts of the object in the answer choices. You're just going to have to practice a lot until the problems feel more comfortable, TFE is definitely the most alien section IMO, unless you have a natural talent for seeing 3d images in your head (made me think of rotating molecules mentally in organic chemistry).

At most it eliminated one answer choice for me on the real DAT. It takes practice. I started out on CDP getting 17 and 18's. On TFE I initially got around 7/15. I eventually was getting 13-14/15 because I was visualizing it in 3D.

Alright man. Thanks.

Also, I have been doing hole punching on CDP for 2 days and am doing pretty good now 80-90% correct BUT my speed is SUPER slow. Any tips on doing this?

I never tried process of elimination and instead just did the grid method and find the correct answer and unfold it all the way back to the original.

Also when you start the problem, you are NOT supposed to go directly to where the hole is punched correct? aren't you supposed to mentally fold the paper from the beginning first then to where the hole is punched and then back?

or am I wasting time doing this?

Line counting will help about half the time but it's important to understand how to do it without line counting.
