Hi everyone

I just can't understand why they have rejected me. I have decent GPA and MCAT score. Good enough to have three ii from great DO schools. Does this mean that they were looking at my application more closely and found something wrong which other schools that have given me the ii have neglected to see before they invted me?

who cares? you are going to get some rejections and you are going to get some interview invites. You may be exactly what one school is looking for and nothing near what another school is looking for. that is exactly why a person applies broadly. don't sweat it.

They just didn't like you.

+1.

well, obviously, they just didn't like me, but it would be nice if i could figure out why...

why dont you ask the actual school that rejected you and not SDN...

I'm guessing this is more a blow to your ego than your actual desire for an acceptance there. Let's not freak out. You have interviews at other DO schools, yes?

Dodged a bullet, blessing in disguise, etc etc.

Seriously, RVU is nothing special. At all.

Maybe they are like MCW -- rejecting people based on credit report.

hmm.. there are schools that do that? and can they do that?

no, not so much of ego thing, but just worried that there might be something seriously wrong with my application that I am not realizing and that other schools will only realize later...

Im pretty sure Georgetown does a credit check before you matriculate. If your credit score is horrible they will let you defer for a year to fix it.

well, i knew about that, but the other guy was saying that they can reject you on credit score...

they rejected me too. I recovered from this pretty fast, im not really sure why I applied there. From what I heard they want lots of upper division bio and community service. and im guessing high stats number wise in general. I feel like it's kinda crappy that they send so many secondaries only to immediately reject so many people, lol. kinda shows the for profit model...

honestly, i wasn't really hurt or anything, but just massively worried since i was considering this school to be my safety school. so i wonder if this means some kind of warning sign of things to come this application year.

btw, i had all those that you said they were looking for....

I wrote them after I was rejected.... They told me that even though I have a ton of volunteer and shadowing experience they'd like to see something more hands on like er tech or scribing and although I took my premed class while working full time and on top of my full time graduate school schedule, they'd like to see me take more than 6-8 hours of bio a semester.... My rxn: are you f---ing kidding me?!?!

that must be some kind of excuse,, they must be looking at something else that they are not willing to share

You mean the for profit school does something that so many "not for profit" schools do? EVIL! Earlier this school was getting blasted for silent rejections lol. Another thing that so many schools do. They can't leave people hanging but they can't reject people... clearly the solution SDN wants is to give everyone acceptances right?

Zoner if you're getting interviews, and at excellent schools at that, then your app is good. RVU is being very selective in their recruitment for whatever reason, possibly too selective but we'll see how it plays out. Do what everyone else is suggesting and just cross it off your list and move on. We have all had to do it too and it stings for a bit but makes you even more excited for the schools that want you.

Just a guess, but perhaps because you bombed the interview?

Quit fussing. You'll be getting rejections for residencies too. Deal with it.

It's definitely a random process at some schools. I personally was decision deferred at WVSOM but received an interview invite to WVU. You just can't let this get to you.

That would be cool.

it's not a personal attack on rvu it's just an observation. Most schools at least defer applicants to evaluate their applicant pool before they become hasty with decisions.

RVU rejected me earlier this cycle as well. I currently have 11 other interviews and one acceptance. I don't think you need to be worried that there is something in your app that they magically saw and the other 3 schools that gave you II's were too dumb to see. Not likely
You'll be fine, oh, and like Dr Wily said, you dodged a bullet IMO.

I don't understand why medical school admissions would require "hands-on" experience like E.R. Tech versus clinical volunteering
.
My lab T.A. has a 26 MCAT and works as a CNA in a nursing home. I have a 34 MCAT and have taken more upper division biology courses while working greater than fulltime in a non-medical career field in addition to typical pre-med volunteer work. I've worked much harder and I'm driven by a sincere and enduring desire to practice medicine. Why would the former person be considered more qualified than me?

You would be less qualified according to RVU, but that's just what they are looking for. They have their own reasons. Really though, when everyone else sees it differently, who care what RVU wants. Lol

man, 11 ii must feel very very nice and soothing...

This is just very frustrating for me because I don't consider RVU a safety pick. I would really like to attend the school.

If I knew a year ago that there was a requirement to have actually worked in the medical field, I would have found a way to do so. Instead, I volunteered, researched, shadowed, and studied for my classes and the MCAT. I know that I'm smart enough, driven enough, and compassionate enough to be a good physician and make a difference in people's lives. As a non-traditional with a family, I can not apply as broadly as others. I can't apply to 20 schools and move wherever I'm accepted. Rejection has far more of an impact than an ego hit.

So did you get rejected from this school yet or not? I can't tell by your posts in this thread.

Not yet, but it seems inevitable because of my lack of medical employment.

If you haven't gotten rejected yet, then why you crying? Just because someone somewhere on the internet posted something saying you might possibly be disqualified but he doesn't really know your circumstances or who you are or even what your application has based on the fact that someone called admissions and was specifically told that in regards to their application RVU would have liked to see something that your application may or may not need?

tl;dr just wait for a bit before you write yourself off.

Same here... 34 mcat, work full time and I take hard classes not just easy a's all while volunteering 12 hrs/ wk

for profit/ not for profit comes down to tax classifications... nothing more.. a NP will reject just as quick... if you get an interview anywhere that means they want you, no school is going to waste time interviewing people they dont want....11 interviews? you'll get in.

This.

Had I only applied to Western, DMU, and Midwestern, I would be seriously* considering the Caribbean right now. And yet I got interview invites from "better" schools than Western, and an "equivalent" of DMU. The admissions process is truly unpredictable. Instead of stressing over where you didn't get in, start planning for where you will go.

*not seriously

You can not be serious.....

RVU is FOR PROFIT. They send secondaries to everybody to get your money and turn a profit. They prob only iinterview people who they know might attend, like those who live in the area or has some other strong ties to RVU.

I'm surprised they aren't more numbers driven. If they want to prove themselves or whatever why aren't they doing more to raise their numbers? RVU's are only middle of the pack.

That isn't because of lack of admission offers. It's because of a lack of acceptances.
