I am currently a rising junior majoring in Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Resident Assistant (1 year)
President of a Cultural Club (2 years)
EMT (Volunteer through my school's organization) (2 years)
Founding a Fitness and Weightlifting Club for the upcoming school year
Tutor for Chemistry paid through the school (1 year)
Chemistry Lab Floater (Similar to TA) (1 year)
Volunteered as a Tutor for a local high school (1 year)
I also have been doing research for the past year and will continue doing so in the summer and the upcoming school year (2 years)

I am almost certain I want to do primary care, leaning towards pediatrician, however I have nothing that really shows that. I know that is it best to try to tell a "story" through your ECs, but mine is clearly not showing that. I do not know if I want to advocate that I am a strong believer in instilling the importance of health while someone is young (hence why I would like to be a pediatrician) or just show I have a passion for kids. I feel as if finding the weightlifting club would show that, but is there anything else I can do to show this, something significant that would stand out a bit? Also, my major does not really correlate to primary care, but it is something I am interested in, in terms of research, not a problem right? Any help would be appreciated, please and thank you.

You don't need to tell a story, but show that you are a good, well rounded person who will make a good, well rounded doctor. I think you ECs look pretty good. Remember, right now focus on looking like a good candidate to be a doctor, not necessarily a pediatrician specifically because so many people switch around! Good luck!

I think your EC's are very well rounded. You show a balance of clinical and non-clinical and also leadership. I think just try to make sure you can really annunciate on one or two of these activities as being the most memorable, more or less how they shaped your personality to fit the characters of a physician. If you are all for family practice than you should really push your clinical work to AdComs. Best of luck and GREAT JOB with the EC's. 🙂

My ECs are pretty similar to yours and I want to go into pediatrics too! You're good, so I wouldn't worry about it. Cuz I'm not! 😛

Hey guys, thanks for the positive feedback, really appreciate it! I do plan on doing the typical volunteering and shadowing this summer, if I do, however, will I still be on track to apply this upcoming school year? My gpa would be ~3.8 and I would take my MCAT in April, what other factors play into whether taking a gap year or not other than extracurriculars and a GPA?
