I recently found out that AAMC's looks at ALL transcripts from your college career. When I was in hs I took some off campus courses at CW Post through my high school. At the time, I didnt care as to what i recieved in these courses as long as my future university accepted them: without a disclosure of a grade. (which they did.) However, now that i found out the AAMC does look at all transcript, i feel like I am screwed. I had taken 12 credits with a cum 2.5 gpa. What do I do? Is there a way to have them removed? What would happen if i dont send them into AAMC, even though they are acknowledged on my current university's transcript. I feel like that one semester, limits me sooo much. Thank in advance.
-Troubled Pre-Med (even though there might not be a such thing as a untroubled pre med)

gotta send them kiddo, but you do get a chance to explain your grades in your app (which may help/no guarantees though)

If you don't send them, School finds out, you lose your acceptance.

What numbers are you riding with right now?

OP, FYI, we've had some threads about this recently, so you may want to do a search to get additional information. I'm surprised that it comes up this often, but it does.

I have a 4.0 since. The highest possible gpa i can have is a 3.86. It just sucks to figure it out so late in the game. And i could have easily gotten A's in those classes too.

Before all the other premeds come here and get on their high horses and start preaching about honesty and "how dare you even think about not reporting them, you shouldn't become a doctor" blah blah blah, I just want to say welcome to the club. I too am in that same position, but you need to know that AMCAS will report not only your cummulative GPA but also for each year of "college." For those of us who took dual enrollment in high school, this means we will have a GPA from high schoo, so schools will be able to see your GPA is being pulled down by those classes from HS. I doubt they will put too much weight in to them, so just worry about doing well from now on. I agree though, it does suck.

3.86?

Do not pass go, do not collect $200, go straight to Carib.

Kidding, no big. Kids are stupid in HS. Just come up with a good answer for interview.

you'll be fine, with a 3.86 shush and send your grades. they will see it and justify it themselves. you can't even hide it and be like 🙄 since you actually transferred the credits to your school (which should be stated on your college transcript - they will wonder)

you are fine, dont lose sleep!

It comes up so often cause these friggen ******* **** guidance counselor's push these college level credits without telling kids the consequences. I think they should ban hs extension credits. You don't see elementary school kids learning calc. If i ever got the chance, I would go back and shoot my guidance counselor in the face.

Contrary to common belief on SDN, a 3.86 is still a great GPA. Is it a 4.0? No, but schools will know it is lower because of grades from HS, and they will see you got the grades when it really counted.

i agree with you on every thing but the last sentence. calm down, you know you will be a good doctor. too much crap in the news to be talking about shooting ppl in the face

I think I said something very similar to this a few weeks/months back when I found out this same thing, but if I had all A's in those classes I sure as hell would want them to count.

I agree, or at least wait until you are actually a doctor so you can save his life afterwards...😉

Wait...classes in HS count? I took dual-enrollment AP US Govt in high school, which basically means I took the class at my HS but got a grade at a community college for it. This class was transferred as a humanities credit. Do I disclose this on AMCAS as a CC class? (I got an A, so I'm stoked if that's the case👍)

That is correct. An A will certainly help you, which coming from UofA you will need :meanie:, jk.

Haha, I saw your MDApps after I posted, was going to say "Ewwwww, ASU! Aren't all their classes CC credit?" but I decided to take the high road. We're classy down here, after all. 😀

Haha, at first I wasn't going to say anything, but then I figured in the spirit of the rivalry, why not?

lol... stop crying and get urself off this thread!!!..

3.86 is nothing to worry abt....

I feel you man. In HS I joint enrolled in 3 classes at an R1. Got a B+ in one, made an A in one, got a mercy C in another (almost had to drop - professor saw I was in HS and took pity). The two classes I was taking in HS at the same time I got mercy Cs. Made me seriously doubt my ability to deal with college, and led me to a CC for a year to test myself (yet, I turned out great - pulling in the strong A average at the same R1).

I wish I could go back and spit on my HS counselor.

I'll trade you GPA's.

I know what your going through. I got 3 D's in autoshop my junior year of high school (I never went to class). The class was at my high school but I got cc credit (8 units). I have had straight A's over the last 3+ years. It kills me that I made such a poor choice and it blemishes my otherwise perfect record. I just wanted to let you know that your not the only one with this problem. I think your 3.86 will get your application plenty of attention and you should get the opportunity to explain yourself in an interview. If you have had good grades since HS then your record should reflect your ability to be successful in medical school.
