So, I am an undergraduate sophomore and I have only completed the biology pre req. I currently am Taking Gen Chem 1 and Calc. Next Semester Ill be taking gen chem 2 and phys 1. Am I behind in the process in preperation for the april mcat of 08? If i stay at this pace i will have Orgo 2 completed after i had already taken the mcat so does that screw me over? Id appreciate any advice. Thank you.

i feel personally that its more important to take both physics before the mcat vs. orgo because physics is more difficult to teach yourself IMO. But..physics is the love of my life so I always just encourage people to take it as much as possible!

Summer is an excellent tool. You'll need to study a bit more, but it's a great way to get caught up.

if you planing on applying in 08, take the mcat in the summer july/aug/sept of 07. I do not recommend taking it in april 08.

that's exactly what i did.. i took orgo while studying for mcat.. i thinkyou're fine! just study hard.. first semester orgo is in my opinion enough for you to do well... good luck

Bleh, that blows. Looks like ill have to find out how the workload will be with phys 2 and orgo 1 in the summer. =/

Honestly I don't suggest it, not unless you are real strong in physics. Some people breeze through physics barely studying. Then again some people have a harder time with physics than other classes. Use your calculus class as a vague example, how well did you do in it? Orgo I and physics II in a summer semester seems tough, unless of course you divide it out. Physics II in summer I, Orgo I in summer II.

Yea defnitely think i will be doing that. Thanks for the advice.

take the mcat when you have the pre reqs done. It will make it much easier to study. It is also hard to get effective studying done when you are taking the classes that are on the test. For example i took practice tests in january for the april mcat but was taking physics and organic at the time. Seeing as though i was only half through with those classes the studying and practice tests were pretty much a waste of time.

Why not? Don't most people take the MCAT in April and apply in June? 😕

he was saying that because im alittle behind. i only have bio completed. im in chem 1 right now. i plan on taking chem 2 next semester and physsics 1
then physics 2 in the summer.

I have to say...physics is my downfall =\
Can anyone tell me how bad the physics was on the mcats?

PS > BS > VR for me anyway. But I think everyone's different. As long as you work hard learning the concepts you should be able to reason through many questions even if you haven't memorized all the formulas. My advice on your scheduling issue? Two semesters before test: Physics I and Orgo I. One semester to go: take the IIs. Same semester as test date: save the dough you've saved for Kaplan and take a good bio review course like A & P (along with three chump classes) so as to allow for ample study prep. This should give you a decent shot at As in all your prereqs, plus the material will be fresh in your mind for the MCAT. Do what works for you and take an extra year if you need to, rather than having it forced on you after a couple of poor prereq marks and a low MCAT 'cause you felt you had to "keep up" with the SDN crowd. Best of luck!

Hey, you're not too far behind. I was in the same situation sophomore year, but had only completed the physics pre-req. Sophomore year i took Gen Chem I and II and Bio I and II, Now I'm taking orgo I. I'm taking the MCAT in April, at which point I will be 7/8 of the way done with Orgo II.

My advisor says i'm not really behind b/c I'll have all my pre-reqs done by the time I start applying: this spring, 2007 for the 2008 cycle.

So you're in the same situation I was last year - take your MCATs in spring 08 and apply for fall 09. Good luck!

don't worry about your pace. remember that it is imoportant that you do well not that you finish early. I think you should put the mcat after you have finished all pre reqs. Now that mcat is offered in 7 months every year, you should not stress yourself out at all. good luck and remember, you need to do well in classes for admission as well.

Do NOT take the MCAT before you're ready, even if it means you have to wait a year (a gap year) to apply. Just don't. Just because the MCAT is offered more times doesn't mean schools are going to be chill with people taking it more. Take it once and stick it. You aren't going to be able to really stick it to the MCAT if you have too many other things on your plate and you feel harried and exhausted. Also, your application year is a crazy, expensive, long year with lots of crazy, expensive essays, interview days and life in general. Plan your attack carefully.

Over and out.

I took the MCAT when I hadn't finished Physics II yet (in April of my Senior Year). And it was hard. I did pretty well in the end, but man was it annoying to have to teach myself about electricity and waves because we hadn't covered it yet in class. As many people have mentioned, the MCAT is now offered a TON. Your scores are also available much quicker. My advice is, wait until you're done all of the prereqs and take it in June. Your scores will be out by July 08 and you can still submit your app for that cycle without being behind.
