Even though I feel that I have learned a TON, I don't think I'm going to be able to pull a 3.5+, some of the profs just flat out refuse to give A's. I'm worried that I won't be able to compete with all the super high GPA's out there. 🙁 Thoughts? I've just been sitting here stewing. 😕

You'll still get in with below a 3.5. Just do well on your DAT and make sure you have good extracurricular activities done.

Check out this link and look at the average GPA and DAT scores for whatever dental school you wish to apply to: predents.com

Yeah. I have below a 3.5 for both overall and science GPA, yet I've gotten interviews to everywhere I've applied so far. Arm yourself with a high (21+) DAT score, activities that show you have a pulse, and a compelling personal statement, and you should be set!

I'm on the lacrosse team, in a theatre group, a sorority (was rush chair last year, webmaster past 2 years, judicial chair this year), and am in the Bio club.

Is that enough?

Edit: and I'm in charge of graphic design for Bio club and an honor society that I'm in.. I dunno if that counts for anything, it's really just t-shirt design.

3.5+ is competitive enough you are fine. you're also making assumptions that you would always get A's, if you get A- thats fine enough too 🙂 still a 3.7

Like Berkguy said, Arm yourself with high DAT scores. Dental school adcoms know how tough or rigorous your courseload of your undergrad based on the achievements of prior candidates who are alums of your school. If adcoms do not know your school that well, most of them put large emphasis on the DAT.

Hence, don't worry about not getting interview invites. You will get these invites if you throw at them a strong application including high number of ECs, shadowing hours, high DAT scores, excellent personal statements and letter of recommendations, and a decent GPA.
