This process is so stressful & expensive, and on top of that everything else seems to be going wrong. A sampling of who has recently made "The List":

#1: Stupid MSN! I haven't gotten any e-mail for 4 days and was getting weird error messages about not being able to send or receive e-mail through my MSN account (the one I listed on AMCAS and all secondaries). I call tech support today, and after an hour on the phone the result is that I lost several important saved messages and they tell me that they have no way to retreive any e-mail sent to me in the past several days or even see what was sent due to a "server error" from upgrades they installed, which apparently I am supposed to be grateful for. Let's hope no med schools tried to contact me via e-mail during that time! Stupid MSN! 😡

#2: Stupid Geico! I moved , literally, 2 miles from my old address, about 3 months ago. When I updated this info with Geico last week, my car insurance company, they informed me my rate would go up $260 (!!!) a year, solely because of the new zipcode, even though my record is clear of accidents or tickets for >3 years. Stupid Geico! 😡

#3: Stupid City of Portland! I received a letter from them a couple of days ago announcing they are eliminating the street parking permit program in my area in a few months, meaning I will have to pay a private garage $75 a month to park my car after that (vs. $15 a year for the street permit). Stupid City of Portland! 😡

#4: Stupid Vet bills! My pug scratched his cornea, and this has resulted in ~$100 of vet bills so far. I could blame the dog, but I prefer to blame the vet. So...stupid vet bills! 😡

Of course, none of these unexpected new expenses would be such a huge deal if it weren't for...

#5: Stupid AMCAS and Secondaries! sucking me dry. Seriously, get rid of one or the other! There is no need for both, it's redundant and serves no useful purpose. If I have to write one more secondary regurgitating my PS in a new format, I'm going to scream (and I have 6 more to go, so that's going to be a strain on my vocal cords). Stupid AMCAS and secondaries! 😡

Okay, my whole life isn't miserable. I have a cute dog, a cute boyfriend, a nice apartment, and a job & co-workers that are non-hateful. But sometimes, the stress of this process and everything else in my life feels overwhelming. Feel free to vent your stresses here also. Who has made your list?

Want some cheese to go with that? 😉

I'm sorry 🙁. I know that feeling, my life has been nothing but down ever since the MCAT. Between girlfriend issues, money issues, schools work, and these applicaitons, it really can get pretty hectic. I'm sorry ot hear about all your problems, I do hope things get better. Hopefully, we will all get through this and get that coveted M.D. 🙂

only $100!!!

consider yourself lucky. $100 would barely get you in the door at my wife's clinic 😉

I am irritated by MSSM. I had to change my ticket to NYC so that I could interview there the day after I originally planned to leave, which cost me $120. Gee, I am really glad I spent weeks planning so that I could save some $$, only to spend more.

Other than that, I am pretty happy. Oh, and by the way I grew up in PDX 🙂

you know what else is sad? i'm so busy with my classes right now that i'm finding it very difficult to prepare for my interviews and concentrate during them. heck, i can't even remember obvious things about my life when asked. i just completely blank out: "so, tell me about your childhood..." "uhhhh... i was like a little baby... and stuff..." yeah, they must feel like they're talking to butthead!!!

😡 🙂 😀 I hope that this will be your progression as you go from applications to interview invites to ACCEPTANCES!

yeah, it sucks. i was thinking, it's senior year, i had a really tough junior year, but i got most of my hard classes out of the way, so now i can take it easy. yeah right! i forgot about all the med school stuff! even though i have mostly blowoff classes, i'm still stressed because i have all these essays to write, interviews to prepare for, etc. what a pain in the ass! the worst is that we have to pay for all this stress. each essay we write costs $50 or so. but oh well, i guess we should feel lucky that we have the opportunity to even go through this process.

good luck Mistress S with all those irritating things going on!
