Hello SDN hope your cycle prepping is going well. I just have some quick questions.

Is the application template the same as last cycles?

Are there any dental students or dentists willing to critique my personal statement?

What are differences in being a re-applicant versus a first time applicant? Last cycle, I saw a question on the application that asked if I was a re-applicant and how my applicant has changed or how it has improved. Are there any other differences?

Last cycle I listed non-significant job experiences on my application, waiter after high school and receptionist for my parent’s business. Both I didn’t spend a lot of time doing. Am I required to list them again? If I don’t would it look sketchy? I have a lot more relevant job experiences now than I did last cycle.

A more general question would be if I have to keep everything from last cycle the same and add on new experiences.

Is discussing chair side assisting frowned upon without a certificate/training? What if it was just small tasks such as suctioning? I gained a lot of dental experience from this so it’d be a shame if I was limited to talking about shadowing. But its better to be safe.

Did anyone get accepted with little professional experience?

120 hours shadowing split between 2 places.

Currently 6 months into my entry level job.

96 hours of volunteering at a soup kitchen. The other volunteering have little hours, about 24 at most, and is spread between my undergrad years. Should I still list them? It’d be kinda hard talking about it at interviews.

I did not join clubs, participate in a lot of volunteering, or have a lot of dental experience in undergrad. So my current application would only list 1 or 2 places in each of the professional experiences section.

Should the professional experiences section be written in a professional powerpoint bullet point style? Or like how you would write a personal statement?

Thank you everyone!

If you were wondering, here’s a summary of my last application.

GPA 3.52, AA 22, PAT 16, applied to all CA schools, Boston, NYU, Tufts, and LECOM. Application was sent out mid August and secondaries sent September.

Interviewed at LECOM and was put on the alternative list.

Whole new template for AADSAS. Nothing carries over.

PM me your PS, I'd love to help you with it.

Reapplicants make up the majority of the class at some schools. It's what you do between cycles that matters though and can show your commitment.

Probably no harm in mentioning that you've been in the workforce.

Anything hands-on is good as far as I know. If it was done under a dentist's supervision there shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not sure what you mean by professional experience. If you mean work experience, plenty get in without it provided you occupied yourself doing ECs.

Maybe throw the 24 hours into a miscellaneous category. But definitely count them.

Write everything the way you would in a statement. Outlines come off cold and you'll get a harder read from adcoms. Show them that you put time into your app.

Nice AA. PAT will probably be an obstacle.
