Hello folks,

I just finished sophomore year. I have a concern b/c I received C+ in general chemistry in my freshman year. Would one bad grade kill my chances to medical schools?

Freshman year:
1st semester: 3.76 (B+ in Calculus 1)
2nd semester: 3.40 (C+ in general chemistry 1, B+ in Calculus 2)

Sophomore year:
1st semester: 3.86 (A in general chemistry 2 and A- in Biology 1)
2nd semester: 3.78 (A- in organic chemistry 1, B+ in Biology 2 and A in 4 credit research course )

My overall GPA is 3.70 after my sophomore year. I am planning to get 4.0 in upper level science classes in my junior year. If everything goes as planned, my overall GPA will be 3.82, BCP GPA will be 3.78, and Science GPA will be 3.71.

I am also preparing for MCAT and trying to achieve the highest score I can with my best effort. I will be applying to medical schools after my junior year.

Would one bad grade in gen chem cause problems? I had my confidence shattered after my freshman year .and I learned so many lessons after doing bad in gen chem 1 and studied really hard in my sophomore year. I am also concerned that I have many B's. Would getting many B's in pre req be problematic? How does my GPA look?

Do I still have great shots at top medical schools with C+ in my freshman year?

Good luck with the Caribbean schools, if they'll let you interview.

You're sooooooo fine trust me. I got a C+ in orgo 1 freshman year, didn't do so much better in orgo 2 (B). Stressed out WAY too much, thought I was in over my head. I graduated with a 3.7 overall, seems like you're already in better shape than me! I got into 7 top 20 schools. SO, stop worrying! sit down, have a beer. Your grades are ****ing awesome.

I’m just curious as to how many neurotic wrecks on average med schools admit each year.
