A person will be in severe debt regardless of where they go. So while I agree with your sentiments and don't agree with EAP programs, I'll say go for it if you know that medicine really really really is the only thing you want to do because Georgetown does have an awesome and reputable program.

Absolutely Awesome

what a great way too convince yourself that all of that work in highschool was actually worth something 🙄

wow thats awesome!!... i'm really interested in the early programs and i was wondering if you could help me with some info about this program.. 😀

Just realized you are in Fl. Good luck, if you have specific questions to the USF admissions director he posts on here as "REL". He usually gets back to you in a day or two. Same with his email. So feel free to email them. I think your application profile looks absolutely wonderful for the Florida schools. Where is your first choice??? Or are you waiting to see where you get in before you make decisions???

Not everyone has "severe debt". I will have less than 40,000 in government loans from medical school by the time I graduate (assuming I don't graduate in 9 years or something horrendous).

Sorry, let me rephrase.........

The good majority of people are in debt coming out of medical school. Only a very very very small percent get such scholarships, and another small percent are lucky enough to be rich enough to not be in debt with or without scholarships.

But most people are in debt no matter where you, whether its a state school or private institution. Its just a matter of caring how in debt you'll be.

I don't know, I don't think you're in heavy debt if you come out of UNC or a UC school, cheap public school etc.

This is a professoin that averages 100,000+ across the board and their are many loan forgiveness programs. It's one thing to be 30,000 in debt coming out of undergrad and going into a job that pays 30,000 versus being 100,000 in debt and going into a salary position that has a guarantee pay of 100,000+ in a few years.

Good pts about the UCs, don't know much about UNC or other NC schools.

I know that at Fl. schools, the med students at the Fl schools said they were in 100k+ debt regardless of state school vs. private institution like UMiami. Although, Mayo seems to have pretty cheap tuition for instate residents of Fl. Az, and Mn that get in. But then again, they also don't let too many people in and are more like a HMS or Hopkins type of school(one focused on getting people who are interested in academic medicine).

To the OP: First of all congrats!

Secondly, what is this program at Georgetown that you're talking about? And what did you do to get accepted? Do all schools have a program where you don't have to take the MCAT?

Congrats qtpie055!! and is your program binding?

I think that he is talking about Guaranteed Admission program or G-Med or BSMD (there are many many names). Most of these people will have guarantee seat in medschool 4 years in advance and some case 2 years in advance. I know that VCU has this program as well, but most of the time, it is only open to their students only.

Thanks DrHopeless. It isn't binding...you can decide later on to apply to other schools. I go to Gtown as a undergrad, and this program allows students to pursue ambituous studies since they don't have to devote time to MCATs and applying to other schools. I'll be studying abroad in England, researching, and volunteering. Gtown is one of my top choices (that and UMD) so I'm really excited!! Even though it'll cost me an arm and leg...i think it's worth it!!
