I got my results today. . . not so good. I got an 86. Somepeople say it really isn't that bad, but from what I hear, you need at least a 90 to get into most Dental Schools for the International Program.

I need advise. What should I do? Should I retake the test again or just move onto Part II. The problem is, I invested 3 months of study to get that 86. It was honestly a dogfight. I have no idea how I can pull of anything higher. But do I stand a chance of getting in if i do better on my part II? Or do Universities not really care. I should mention that I have no preference where I get in. Beggers can't be choosers.

What should I do? Has anyone ever gotten in with an 86?

of course a lot of people got in with your score, and some even lower... if you check the "acceptence thread" of previous years in this forum, you will find that 86 still has chance.
as everybody knows, getting into the dental school is all about the "whole package" not the part1 score alone. Give yourself an evaluation to see if you meet other qualifications like your working experience, research, publication...etc. My friend with your score got at least 3 acceptences among 5 interviews! but he has research and home country working experience.... anyway, the idea is "not to consider retaking if you have strong background". But if you don't have other experience, you'd better retake it. I have to say "part2" won't help...
please never expect you will do part2 better than part1. If you check the stats of other people, part1 score is always lower than part1. Moreover, a lot of schools don't care part2 that much...becuase it's only an option.
Hope this helps....
by the way, the detailed background my friend has:
3 years home country working experience(dentist)
Ph.D. degree (the third country)
3 years research experience in US
several publications
Green card holder
strong recommendation letter (one is from chairman of US dental school)
This is only for your reference. Just check your background, if you have something similar, I bet you have 95% chance to get into the dental school.(my friend got 3 offers)

I think you score is great and don't loose hope cuz I have couple of friends who got into dental schools with way less than your score, try to apply to as many as you can and I am sure you will get in.
