I applied to an internship program through my school back in march. It is considered a big deal because you get to do research with professors who teach at my university's medical school. Based on my grades, extra curriculars, etc, I moved on into the second round which was the interview round. I interviewed with 3 different professors who were doing research (neurology, osteopathic surgery, and cancer) and I believe the interviews went very well. The person in charge of the program said that we would know if we were accepted or not after she received spring grades (I had a 3.5 this semester and the program requires a 3.0). I got an email a few days ago saying that I wasn't accepted to the program. I was extremely crushed and emailed the director asking if I could have any feedback as to why I wasn't accepted. I thought that perhaps none of the professors had chosen me to be an intern, which was extremely depressing because I thought that the interviews had gone well. The director emailed me saying that because I wasn't a full-time student last spring semester I was rejected. I was taking 11 credit hours because my school offers summer classes with cheaper tuition than during the normal school year so I wanted to take 10 credit hours during the summer. It was my first time in my college career (3rd year student) that I hadn't taken 12 credits or more. I also am taking 14 credit hours next fall semester, which is when the internship actually begins. I emailed her back explaining the situation and that if I had known I would've added more credits. She replied with I shouldn't have even made it to the interview process and that I should check with the campus career preparation office. I did, and all the internships they had for pre-med students take place during the summer and they have already started. I understand that I am in the wrong for not being a full-time student, but isn't there anything I could say/do to perhaps get her to reconsider. This internship would be such an amazing opportunity and all 3 interviews I had were with professors who are in fields that I am extremely interested. Any help would be appreciated.

It sucks that you were rejected because of a technicality, but that's just the way it is sometimes. After already getting in contact with the director and explaining your case, there probably isn't a whole lot else you can do now. Besides, the positions have probably already been filled. I would suggest getting in contact with other professors or researchers and try to set something up yourself.
