That's it.
That's all I had to say.
Just needed to get that off my chest.
I loathe (insert long continuous strand of offensive explitives here) calculus.

Good Night.

I hate calculus too. I have a weird experience with it. My first semester I took Calc 1 (5hrs), and I was doing ok, but I did not understand it all all and I don't think my teacher did either and I ended up dropping it. Then last year I took Calc A (3rs), which is all that is required for all the schools I applied to, and made an A. Then I heard that ETSU would not accept calc A. So, I'm taking Calc 1 again (only this time its only 4 hrs), but then I found out that ETSU is taking the Calc A class, but I only have 12 hrs and I can't drop. Until Monday my average was a 90 something, but I had a test on Monday and forgot about it and didn't study until I was in A&P that morning. I'll be lucky if I ended up making a 60 on it. ugh. I'm going to feel really stupid if I can't get an A after my 3rd time taking it.

I agree. Calculus was by far the hardest class for me. Somehow, I was able to pass it with a B but it took many hours of studying. Guess you just gotta pick it up as you go. Didn't do so hot on my first test in there (71 C) :scared: but I was able to get it for the most part.

oh sad for hating calc!
multivariable calc was probably my second favorite class in college next to biomaterials. no joke. to be fair, i'm an engineering major, so i'm supposed to like calc or something like that though.

at any rate, it'll be over soon enough even if you hate it. semester's almost over. just try to make the best of it.

I agree, I love Calc. I am actually a Calculus teacher. I was also an engineering major. You know, in Calculus, your teacher really matters. When I took calc I, I had this great teacher and I breezed through it. At the end I sold my book back to the book store (it was supposed to be for calc I - III) because I never used it (I would do my homework in the math lab at school) because my teacher was so good! When I took calc II, my teacher was a total boob. I had to go and REBUY the book for $120, and I had sold it back for $35. I have litterally never struggled so hard through a math class. I got a C and deserved an F. Then I took calc III and got another A (another great teacher.)

I don't even walk down the hall where I took Calculus or I'll have flashbacks and start screaming uncontrollably.

Wow! I completely hate calculus. It is so over my head. I took it this semester, and had to drop it because there was no way I was even going to come close to getting that C I would need just to get the credit and move on! I'll be taking it again though, and I'll probably be almost bald from pulling out my hair in the process!!

The teacher DOES make a difference, I really agree with that!!!

I started it last semester and did the same thing as you. Now I'm back in it again, only I NEED to pass it this semester.

The girl next to me failed it twice already and is in it for the third time. Girl behind me failed it once and is in it for the second time. Guy on the other side of me had a C up until the final and ended up getting a D, is taking it again. We've lost about 5 or 6 people in the last WEEK. They are dropping like flies. This is the most stress I have ever been under with a pre-pharmacy class.

I hated it even more when I found out I took the wrong class...took applied.

The first Calculus is nothing compared to the second one. It makes the first Calculus seem so elementary. That was by far the hardest class I have ever took and I was happy to get that B.

I've heard calc 2 is a weed out class.....?

It is easier to stomach if you teacher has a sexy accent...okay, not really. 😉

On my first day of Calc, I couldn't figure out why the teacher kept saying "party, party, party" and pointing at the board... well, he has a very strong accent and with his accent, "positive, positive, positive" sounded like "party, party, party". That class killed me. 😳

My trigonometry teacher kept saying, "Teeter this..." and "Teeter that..." and finally someone had the courage to ask him what the heck "teeter" was. He was saying Theta.

This is my LAST math class. I don't need to take calculus 2. Do you mean to tell me that some of you need to take calculus 2 to apply to the programs you want to get into? If that were the case for me, I would change what school I wanted to go to.

Chris

Okay, you know a Calculus test was hard as hell if half the class just walks out 20 min into the test. That is what I felt like doing after I initially looked over the test....but I just tried to work out the problems and get something that resembled math on my paper.

I knew the test was going to be hard because we were allowed to use one page of notes....that is always a big clue... 🙁

I am getting the test back tonight and I think I just may have failed my first test in college. :scared:

I feel bad, yet lucky after reading these replies. 😳 My calculus teacher was a skater and looked like he just graduated. He wore a hat and looked like a slacker every day. He let us take our final exam in groups of 4 with one page of notes. I guess there just aren't a lot of fun calculus teachers like him in the world. 🙁 I haven't really heard anybody cool throughout my life say "I want to teach calculus when I grow up!"

Hrmm... I'm the opposite. Math just makes sense to me. I got a 97% in calc, but it took me dropping English Comp I 3 times before I passed it. Go figure.

that is hilarious
 😀

For some reason, all the biology courses came to me easily and I passed most of those with near 100%. I've got a 99% in Physics II right now and my calculus is hanging in there with an 85%.

I think I may actually get through this! (knock on wood)

ONLY THREE MORE WEEKS TO FREEDOM!!!

I'm a non-traditional student. I earned a bachelor degree in dietetics in 2003,which didn't require much math. It's been years since I had math in H.S. Do you guys know of any study materials......books, internet, etc. that I could learn some background math or even some calculus before taking the class this Fall. Thanks!

You could try cliffs notes.

i love calculus. It was my absolute favorite class! my second semester, i had a blind teacher. yes. blind. but she was awesome and it was really amazing how well she could teach! and she brought her guide dog to class everyday which was motivation for me to go to class. and he would have doggy dreams and whimper in his sleep.

I work at a Testing center and we recommend these interactive websites to students to work on math skills

www.gomath.com
www.purplemath.com
www.calculus-help.com

And any cliffs notes, as another poster mentioned.

Wow, a blind teacher! 😱

I loved calculus too. Well, except for calc 3 and 5 which I had to take. I'm actually looking forward to pharmaceutical calculations in pharmacy school because I love math.

You obviously know nothing about what a dietetics major is. It has nothing to do with starving. :meanie:

i wouldn't think it means to major in dieting, but what is it anyway? Is it study of nutrition? I saw a sign about something with dietetics majors at school the other day, so just curious.

As you probably know already, there's a 5 member team at a hospital, which consists of a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, pychologist, and dietition. Dietitions formulate diets for patients that have special needs. For example, diabetics, burn patients, gastrointestinal problems, colitus, and people that have had surgeries. The list goes on and on.......Most dietitions do not work with people just for weight loss. They are registered and work in a hospital with a part of the team mentioned above.......hope this helps!

I had a lot of the prereq. done for pre-pharm. since the dietetics degree requires a lot of chemistry, biology, and anatomy/physiology.

Thanks for the laugh. I printed a copy out and I'm giving it to my calc instructor on Monday.

I have been warning all of my classmates that a deafening scream is imminent one of these days. Joe, the ex-marine that sits directly in front of me just requests that I get no spittle on him.

five more days...
five more days...
five more days...

I f%^$ing LOATHE this class.

Calc 2 is the biggest joke of all time. Integral calculus is easier than differential calculus.

It makes me sad that you guys all hate calculus. I do calculus in my spare time I love it so much 🙁 (sounds nerdy, I know; but I'm self-teaching myself Calculus III right now, lol).

Man, that sounds like an illness. I do art in my spare time. Sounds like a left brain/right brain battle.

To each his own...

I still hate calculus, but at least I think I passed. This will be my only C... EVER. In 13 years and 3 different institutions of higher learning I have only ever gotten A's and B's. This will be my first college C.

I couldn't be more elated with it. It is a passing grade.

That class was the equivalent of having a 5 month long, extremely unpleasant rectal examination.

Congrats! I think we've all had at least one torturous class. You got an A in O-chem II - I got a C (my only one). You get a C in calculus while I get an A.

I'm happy that you got through it. Wouldn't it be a kick if you actually do better than you think you did? 😎

Now rest up before the fun begins this fall.

I just had to join in and announce that I am also finished with Calculus FOREVER!!! I hadn't taken a math class in 11 years and didn't have time to take pre-Calc or any kind of review class to help me prepare. I've never been so excited about a C before in my life! 🙂
