I HATE General Chem 2.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
No joke, Orgo was significantly more enjoyable than gen chem 2. The material is just plan out more interesting and is more like playing sudoko or crosswords than with gen chem 2 where it's all calculations on thermodynamics and acid-base equalibrums.

Which is like two frickin' equations. As opposed to 120 arbitrary reaction substrates, products, reagents, and stereochemistry...

I never got formula sheets in my General Chemistry I class. 🙁

And still it is more fun than calculating entrophy of an exothermic system.

I took gen chem 2 at USC also. They warned us that 30% of the class usually fails the first test. Depends on the teacher, but definitely do as many practice problems as you can!

Gen Chem II to me was horrible, it was the only class I have gotten a B in, in college. Your troubles in Gen Chem with all of the Acid Base stuff and equilibriums will most likely go away when you hit Orgo, IMO. Just beast it out to the end and try harder in upper level classes. 🙂

Honestly, I would love for you or someone like that pretentious ****** of a professor you had to tell me I was destined to fail, so I could just prove you or him wrong. That professor is not right in the least, and you and him need to get rid of your elitist attitude. There are kids out there who can succeed but give up because of *******s like you.

THIS.
A lot of pre-med characters have a certain elitist, sadistic personality. Chem is a highly hated subject. I'm sufficient in it and still dislike like it. Just have to read textbooks, work problems, and view videos online Op. Don't give up because of one subject.

I'm currently in the middle of General Chem 2, and I am very worried... I ended up taking General Chem 1 at a community college, and ended up with a C+ (My professor was BS and wouldn't give us ANY formula sheets) . I told myself, No worries, I will push myself for an A in Chem 2.

I'm now at the University of South Carolina, and this Gen Chem 2 has me in a nervous fit. I made a 67 on the first exam.. and exam 2 is coming up this next monday. I don't know what I will do if I make another C in this course...

Will this look terrible if I end up having to repeat Gen Chem 2?

How did you guys survive this awful awful class?

And am I doctor material if I hate Chemistry's guts?

Ugh. Frustrated, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Formula sheets? You think you're going to have anything similar to a formula sheet on your MCAT or in med school? Chem 1 doesn't even have that many formulas per section/test.

Getting a C at a community college will be worse than having to retake Chem 2.

Chem 1 was harder for me than Chem 2 since Chem 2 is basically all math, but if you study and do problems you should be fine (and not need formula sheets)

I know this is a revival from the ancient dead but I joined after reading this thread and seeing how many people think it's easy, but seem to not have taken the course. Just to emphasize just how difficult this course is my Chemistry II professor who has been involved in serious Chem studies and developments in his professional career, advised that it is the most difficult course that we would ever take. Don't let the 'Gen' in Gen Chem fool you...Theres nothing general about the complexity of this course...Only that it isn't a specific type of chemistry like Biochem, or Organic Chem, it's still Chemistry and just as difficult if not worse than the others because it isn't limited to one discipline of Chemistry like the other courses. I can see why it's more difficult to many than OCHEM, etc. It's been a skull splitter for me too. The math is a cinch, but incorporating it along with the concepts is how it frustrates many. It's not even basic calculus...It's algebra essentially, but the concepts and variations within them make this course crazy. READ READ READ, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

I wonder if OP has given up on his dreams yet
