If you are allowed to use it this way, go to Amazon and buy all sorts of textbooks that are not provided by your program. (I don't know if you are a resident or attending - if you are the latter, replace "program" with "employer".) I did that, and got all sorts of good stuff, like "Emergency Radiology" and the Trott book on lacerations.

Emergency Medicine Practice

http://www.emergency-medicine-practice.com/

I got these free as chief and am about to renew.

You also can't go wrong (assuming you like audio content) with anything from these guys: http://www.theemrapproject.com/

They're the ones who put out EM:RAP, EM Abstracts and Risk Management Monthly. And do USC Essentials.

If you're about reading content online, consider www.cmedownload.com.

Finally, there is a web site I've been meaning to try but haven't gotten around to. It is a join venture with ACEP but I can't think of the name. Does this ring any bells for anyone?

Oh, and finally, if you have a PDA, look at PEPID. www.pepid.com

Take care,
Jeff

I was wondering this myself. (And sadly I only have $300 to spend)

And they replenish your account? I was told I had to use my CME money by the end of September or they'll give it to the incoming interns next year. :scared:

New Rosen's just came out. I just ordered "The ICU Book" and a book by Trott called "Wounds and Lacerations." Pocket refs are always good - Tarascon Emergency and Tarascon Critical Care come to mind. PEER VII might be a good option. There's a new Harwood-Nuss that should be out any day as well as a new Roberts and Hedges.

Hell, free money should be something both enjoyable and educational.
Wilderness Medicine by Auerbach is an awesome book.

Depends. books are great, but only if you will read them.

You could also consider: panoptic, blue lights that go on your stethascope (for corneal abrasions).

If you are an audio person, go for the ones recommended.

Also consider putting it towards going to a conference.

Necro-bump.

Except for me it's $900. And because of stupid rules, I can't purchase electronic reading devices, but I probably can purchase electronic media.

Any suggestions as to a course to go to?

the advanced airway course (levitan) is always well-regarded
else pick something cool, like the wilderness med courses that are always in the awesome ski towns.

audiodigest had a deal that you got a free ipad with a 3 yr subscription...not sure if it's still going on but might be a way around your "stupid rules"

That one's not still going on, but challenger has one if you buy a lifetime subscription. For $5600. I'll pass.
