Hi guys. Im a premed at a mid-large university. I do pretty well in my courses and currently have a 3.78 gpa. The problem is that o have a drinking problem.

The problem is not that drinking gets in the way of my classes or anything like that. It is that im very shy and rely on alcohol to fix this. Every time i have a speech or interview or anything social i drink lots of captain morgans to get me through it.

Knowing This problem; should o get help, avoid medical profession or something else.

I really don't want to hurt anyone or put them at risk.

Your school should have some sort of counseling services on this, right? I think it's best you started there to see what they do.

And I don't think OP is trolling.

I echo TexasSurgeon. Look into your school's counseling center. They'd be more than happy to help you out. Definitely don't let the problem fester with inaction. Seek help and keep up the good work toward med school. Best of luck!

Unfortunately if i make my school aware of the problem i will more likely to get caught being intoxicated on campus. If my professors were aware of my disposition they might notice more readily or be more likely to think im intoxicated in the aforementioned situations.

That isn't how those services work. They cannot tell your professors anything that you tell to the counselor(s) at your school.

Absolutely not. Strict confidentiality is maintained between counselors and students. You wouldn't have to worry about your personal issues being disclosed.

They might consider an intoxicated student on campus to be a safety issue and at that point they would have to disclose as to protect all other students and faculty.

But just guessing...all speculation.

Really, please go to your school's counseling center. They'll help you out because that's their job.

Make an appointment.
Go in.
They will absolutely have a document explaining their confidentiality policy and what it covers. In general, if you disclose an intent to actively harm yourself or others, they will report. Otherwise, it's covered.
If you still have concerns after reading their document, be straight with them. Ask them questions about it.
If that doesn't reassure you, consider staying and discussing your shyness and social issues without directly referencing the drinking, at least until you are more comfortable. You can still benefit, and perhaps you will become more comfortable speaking to them.

If, after all that, you are still too concerned to go through with it, consider finding an AA group or something similar. However, I think you will find that, once you've broken through the hesitancy about seeking help, and the nitty gritty details of finding the right place, making an appointment, etc., and are able to address only your confidentiality concern without the other stuff weighing in, you will be more able to assess that issue itself instead of letting it stop everything before you get started.

Good luck.

You have a couple huge run-on sentences in your post . Have you taken English 1 yet?

I tried to put some advice in here, and used some info about myself.
OP turned out to not need/want advice, so I took it down.
Sorry.

Every single one of your posts in this thread is rife with grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors. You frequently use IM abbreviations.

Are you seriously ignoring my content because I strung 2 sentences together?

No. Thank i for your comment and advice. I was just trying to help you since you were trying to help me.

You should not be ashamed that English is a second language for you.

im not the greatest troll hunter in the world, but I realized this was fake as soon as I read "captain morgans." I got a decent laugh, so OP has my respect. this was a good one.

Obviously I had hoped that OP was legit.

You need to stop with the drinking sooner rather than later. Do not drink during the day as you have been- that's putting you on the fast track to being a dysfunctional alcoholic.

I think you're thinking of @user3 man. This user12 has been around a while, but their posts are strange.
User12 isn't a frequent poster, but people have been talking about his imminent ban since the day he started 3 years back. It's never come to fruition because he never gets offensive enough.

It's probably one of MedPR's or Arkangeloid's accounts. Would be interesting if they were the same person.

Yes but when he blatantly tipped off that he was posting using multiple handles in the same thread...that could put him over the line.
