When is the latest I can get my recommendations without it effecting the time I turned in my application? In other words, when will schools begin to delay assessing my application because I'm missing a recommendation?

I'm getting a recommendation from my undergraduate pre-medical committee and since they agreed to do it, they haven't responded to any emails I've sent (which worries me). I need to know when I have to really start trying hard to contact them.

Thanks.

You don't have to have your letters in for the primary application. So if that's all you're lacking, I would go ahead and submit now. They have to be in by the time you submit your secondaries, which is sometime in July at the earliest, I think.

So you're okay for now. I don't have all of my letters in yet, either.

Yes, I actually submitted on Friday so I knew it was okay for the primary. So that makes sense that it's by secondary application.

Now if I add a recommendation for some reason, do I have to resubmit my application and go further back in line? (since I assume that medical schools get primaries in the order they're submitted)

You can submit your AMCAS without LOR. My LOR's were composited by my pre health commitee. Even though my professors turned in my LOR's in May, it was October before the sent it to my medschools because they have 100+ student applying each cycle. Im guessing your school is like that too since the had the need to a pre health committee.

You also dont have to have your LOR's before you submit your secondary applications. However your LOR's have to be in before the secondary application deadline which varies by school but the deadline for most medschool are between October and December

However you cant get invited to interviews without LOR's so the soon the better.

Stay on them about your LOR's because its your responibilty to make sure you meet deadlines but inquire polite because you dont want to leave a bad impression.
