I need to get some opinions for my situation…

I found out today that I will be accepted through an automatic admissions policy at Sullivan University. Nothing official on paper, it is just based on a conversation I had with the Assistant Dean and my rank on their waitlist for entrance this year. Here’s my dilemma:

I’ve been accepted at Wingate, and since Sullivan is a 3yr program, I will graduate at the same time. Tuition costs will be just about the same over the course of attendance, so there’s no advantage to one school over the other tuition-wise.

Having never been just a student – is a full summer off worth it? I’ve had summers off from school, but I still worked full time. I’m thinking that 2 weeks off in between quarters will suffice for a break. What do you guys think? Something else to consider – my fiancée will be moving with me and if I go the Sullivan route, then we can take off and come back home together. At Wingate, I would have the entire summer off, but she wouldn’t. That will limit what we can do.

I can save extra money over the course of the year off to take to Sullivan with me – an opportunity I wouldn’t have if I started this fall.

Can you explain more for me about the automatic admission policy?

If it's not on paper and contractual, I wouldn't consider it a good idea to make plans based on it!

Unless exactly 100% of students who matriculate from this "automatic admissions" deal you've got going on, I wouldn't risk it.

If you interviewed this year and were placed on the alternate list, you then had an option to be considered for ‘automatic admission’ into the class that begins July ’10. I’m not sure how their policy is worded internally, but basically if you rank high enough on the alternate list for this year, then they will automatically extend an offer of admission for next year. They will not be sending out official acceptances through this avenue until mid-late May or the first of June.

That's one thing I mentioned to the Assitant Dean today. I really liked the progam at Sullivan and I told him that I wouldn't turn down an acceptance elsewhere unless I had the official paperwork.

It's not on paper at the moment. During my call today he said it will be on paper mid-late May and no later than the first of June. I will have plenty of time to accept the offer without starting a program this fall if I choose to do so.

What would you do in your year off? Something productive? If yes, then wait a yr since it sounds as though you like that program better. If not, go to the school at which you were accepted.
