i jus submitted AMCAS, what is Certiphi Screening, Inc.???

I turned in my thingie, and I saw this national service screening service or something? Whats the deal with this thing? Anyone know?

i hope your word choice was far better on the AMCAS than on this post.
 
hahaha yes i do hope your word choice for your actual application was much better but anyways certiphi is just the company that does a background check, there are about 10 schools that participate in having amcas do a background check on all applicants so you applied to a school that has participated. i think you can request a copy of the report they do on you if you check the certiphi website or something like that. good luck with the rest of the application process! 🙂

Certain schools require background checks now. You don't have to fill out the forms for them yet - you can wait until the schools tell you they need that info and it's available through AMCAS.

The background check is conducted by Certiphi Screening on behalf of AAMC when a participating school offers "initial, conditional acceptance" or puts you on the alternate list. I don't know if you're entitled to a copy of this or not - the AMCAS e-mail describing the background check doesn't have any information to that effect, and neither does the Applicant Instruction Manual.
 
I looked through the site that AMCAS linked to just to see how much they would charge and it seemed like they wanted payment info and just said vaguely that it would cost up to $150 without giving a specific amount. 😕

You are not responsible for any fees associated with conducting your background search.
 
what exactly entails a background check? like crime and stuff?

yea dont worry, i used better language on AMCAS. i used big words like..... "happily", "enamored" and "plop on sofa". :laugh:


no....I actually really did.
 
i called them up and they had said at least $250 to see your check. However, it can be more if the file has a lot of stuff in it apparently. BOO. 👎

Are you worried about something in your background? There are plenty of places to go and have one done on yourself for way less than $250. Go get one - at least that way you'll be prepared for interview questions about it!

hey zipmedic, actually I'm pretty sure when I was shown the Certiphi part of the submission they said you can request a copy of the background check by visiting their website.

nah i got nothing to hide. police officers are my friend. they even give me this piece of paper about once a month where they ask me to donate to charity...i believe its...some kind of state fund?..the government fund, yea that one.

i seek altruism in all places my friends.



nah seriously, is background check like crime, felony, or where u went to school or where u grew up, or what jobs you held in your life??
 
Do things on your school's private record show up on these checks? I've been written up a few times for drinking/noise when I was in the dorms and just wondered if this type of stuff showed up

Yeah, I knew someone who got busted drinking once his freshman year and didn't get in to ANY med school because of it...
