I just found out my aadsas GPA is different than what I expected.

So apparently my 3.0 I have on my official transcript doesn't mean jack and aadsas changed it to a 2.91.

What happened was I got a D in Biology my Freshman year, but retook it and got a B. I did a second grade option where the old grade and credit was removed and replaced with the new one. But I guess both still showed up and counted on the aadsas GPA converter. Is there anything I can do? It's making me worry a bit with now, not even a 3.0 as my GPA, and my science GPA is around 2.7 or so. But I did jump from a 3.02 the semester before to a 3.62 the last semester. These are my DAT scores:

PAT - 20
Bio - 19
Chem - 18
Organic - 19
Reading - 18
Math - 17
Science - 19
Overall - 18

I don't want to feel like giving up hope, but reality is my chances aren't as good. I ****ed up freshman year and it's biting me in the ass so it's feeling pretty painful right now. Thanks in advance.

Hang in there, I messed up fresh. year too, and were not the only ones. Do you have a state school?

I'm going to the University of Iowa as an out of state student from California, hoping to get into the University of Iowa school of dentistry. I applied to 52 dental schools and I really would not want to disappoint my dad as he is paying with just about every paycheck he gets, but now I find out this. I'm not going to give anything up. But it is getting to me when I consider what I would do next year when I graduate if I don't get accepted. Heck, even one interview anywhere will make me happy as long as I can personally show them who I am.

hey roblu, aadsas counts every grade no matter if you retook a class or not. so for example you score a C in one class and retake and get an A. They just look at is like two courses one C and one A. I know this because my friend had the same problem. roblu your dat scores are good, did you apply to your state school(s) and the new midwestern in AZ? best of luck in all that you do

Yeah the only schools I didn't apply to are the ones in Canada and Puerto Rico School of Dentistry. Everything else I applied to.

I was panicking last night till about 6AM this morning getting about 2 hours of sleep and I just got done stressing with my DAT. But this clears it up. At first I thought they made a mistake, or worst of all, I made a mistake. But I guess it's what it is (whether I retook a class or not) and I have to live with my stupid mistakes made freshman year ( ie. getting addicted to Halo 2 and forgetting my purpose in college). I really hope dental schools won't judge a person based on a single semester. That is what I'm afraid of the most: My 1.81 second semester freshman year. My Junior year was 3.02 and 3.63 like I mentioned but I don't know if it's too late.

You could have saved yourself some money and not applied to schools like Harvard, and the Texas schools. You have no prayer of getting into any of the TX schools with your stats especially since you are not a resident.

Yeah I know, Harvard. But even if there a chance, despite how crappy it is, I have to take it. It's like the super lotto: people play it knowing they aren't going to win but hold onto that sliver of hope. It's what I am doing. Though I agree, the financial problems is kill me.

Wait... so the texas schools are extremely hard? Ok.. crap... cause I was hoping to go to Baylor.

There's several schools that only take in-state residents... you probably could have saved a little money by figuring out which ones those are (Medical College of Georgia is one). Anyway, it's going to be tough with those stats, but it's possible... the rest of your application is going to be very important. You're going to need lots of extracurriculars/volunteering/shadowing etc. It's definitely better that you screwed up in freshman year than later on though. I always hear that the admissions committees are looking for upward trends in grades. Good luck.

yeah I didn't apply to the ones which only accept residential students. At least I didn't get the option to apply for it on aadsas. They probably knew as well not to put those dental schools down for you to check.

In essence, you have a solid DAT score (18/20) but GPA that is below avg. However, consider the number of schools that you applied to, I think you might get some interviews.

Thanks for the help and info guys. I hope everyone of us here makes it into dental school.

Is anyone else bighting their tongue???
