I know this is decently common (because of the talk I had with the physician after) but I thought the reason was pretty interesting.

Apparently I have a genetic variant of the HLA gene (HLA DQ2) which means that it is unlikely I will ever give back a reactive titer.

Calling the medical center tomorrow to make a plan of action (to see if they want to try the one dose or all three doses again)

From my own personal experience, they will want you to have all three just to cover your basis

This is more common than you think. Another go-around should be able to get you a titer, but my understanding is that there are people who never develop one no matter how many times you jab them with the vaccine. I'll have to ask my Immunology colleague about the specific.

To be clear i was never worried this would be an issue (i mean the info the doctor gave was that 40% of people have this variant), but i thought the specific details would interest some people. It seemed like my physician went above and beyond to research it

Thats only if you can pay the bill. Otherwise you get another 6 months.

I'm just about to finish my second complete round next month. I hope my titers are good so I don't have to worry about it. I doubt they will make me do it a third time but you never know.

you just do it during school right? and they made you do all 3?

I work in a hospital so it's required. I'm not sure what different school requirements are. I did one set before I started working there and when I started they checked my titers and they weren't good so I'm going through the set again.

OK but youre allowed to work during it right? I was told that its doubtful that ill ever get a reactive titer due to a gene i have

You can work as long as you agree to get the series again. Since it seems to be at least relatively common I'm guessing a physician will have to sign off saying I'm unreactive and I won't need to do it again.
