they are not even listening to you sometimes. Not complaining, I understand, but I thought it was interesting when I ran into an old HS classmate (radiology resident) and like the Dr. I work with, his mind is somewhere else when I was talking to him.

E.g., when I send an email to the doc I work for asking 7 questions related to the research we're working on, he only answers 2 of the questions ?!?!

Scatterbrain comes to mind. I know they are busy, but THAT busy? Does it carry over into personal life, tuning people out?

um, while you've had this experience more than once, I think its a characteristic of the people with whom you're taking to in these specific instances and not necessarily a 'doctor' thing. I have noticed that some people tend to become preoccupied with different things, and one of them isn't always being as approachable as they used to be (or as we think they should be), but this often has to do with the fact that if you've known them for a while, they become this way under stress regardless of what it is that caused them the stress.

I have known doctors, on the other hand, that will always have time for everyone and will give you as much time as you need. Are they any better at what they do? Less 'scatterbrained'? I don't think so...I think it just has to do with the person. Don't worry about it too much!

Just think of it this way. If you tend to tune people out during finals and are short with people when things get really hectic, then you might carry this over into your personal life when you get into medical school, but it really depends on you, not necessarily the profession.

G'luck! :luck:
