I know it's early, but at what point do you start to worry?

Like I said, I know that it's early, but when is it appropriate to worry? My apps went out at the end of july and I havent heard much from many schools (except where to send more money of course).

Also, what does it mean when AADSAS sent out "revisions"?

Sorry, your already late. If you wanted to start worrying you should have done so long ago. I would look at applying next year so maby next time you can worry on time.

Was that an attempt at a joke? I don't get it.

There no point in worrying dude. All you can do is get your stuff in on time and wait. If you cant wait then make a phone call. Worrying will not help. If you didnt get your stuff together in time and you are just now worrying then you are too late. You should have worried long before the application process began so now you would be sitting pretty. I fyou did get your sh!+ in on time then once again no need to worry. Like you said its still early.

Actually, having your apps sent out to the schools late july is still considered really early. And yeah, its still way too early in the game to determine whether or not you should be concerned. I'd say by mid-october if you haven't heard from anyone you should make some phone calls.

do you have everything submitted at each school?

if yes, then i would call or email to check on the status of your application at the schools you are concerned about.

if no, then get the rest of the materials in ASAP and follow-up at each school to make sure your materials were received and also to check on the status.

if you don't know if you need to submit additional info. check aadsas's supplemental section, each school's website and then if that fails i would call or email the school. 🙂

Thanks for the advice. I have everything sent to the schools but wasn't sure if it was okay to call and ask about my status. Will they tell you over the phone?

Also, I know that it is early so my original question was at what point do we worry. Sorry if I'm confusing but thanks for the input anyway.

there are many schools that havent sent things out.....

-boston
-tufts
-USC

just to name a few i'm waiting on.

Go look at the 2006ers on PreDents.com. Some applied early and didn't interview until February (and they still got in). While I hope we all hear from schools before then, just because you don't hear right away doesn't mean it's over 😉

THAT WAS LAST year. Did you know that most schools already have 3000 applicants they are sifting through? To the original poster: you should have listened to everyone when they said apply early. Where were you?

I would wait it out and reapply in mid may like all the smart people.

I'm under the impression that OP had his app SENT OUT in late July. I applied May 24th and mine got sent out mid july.

I would have started worrying when your parents did...10 years ago.

Thank you abzirian! Isnt that what I said? My apps went out July 21 from AADSAS. "Where were you?" (quoting 'ObviousGuy) talk about quick to condemn. My application was submitted within the first month that it was available so I feel I was paying attention when "they said apply early". It's unbelievable how fast people are to tell you that you're some kind of idiot who doesn't care about their future. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my original post. If so then I apologize. I was just curious at what point in time (Dec, Jan, Mar) if you haven't received an invite, should you plan on not getting one?

Oh...your first post wasn't obvious. Sorry. I would say keep your hopes up until next year in MAY. I am dead serious. I know some people who got an acceptance call in July a week before school started.

Jeez, you guys are harsh this year!!!! 😡 Try and compensate for all this increased competition this year by being the most compassionate applicants; don't forget the wonders of a glowing personality at your interview!

Firstly, don't worry until you get rejection letters from every single one of the schools you applied to. Until then, there is always hope (and lots of delays, usually.) People are accepted up to a week before classes start. Breeeeeeaaaaathe, and if it makes you feel better, call the schools just to make sure your app is complete (so you don't get annoying by asking about interview status and the like.)

Secondly, years go up and down in applications.....when baby boomers applied it was rediculous....I know everyone is quoting the stats of how many are applying this year....but honestly, RELAX! It oscillates so much that you can't possibly predict how you'd do one year in relation to another.

I'm finding in dental school that everyone is constantly asking how far you've gotten in studying for certain classes; not competitive as in wanting you to do badly, but simply making sure THEY have no gotten behind. Start a trend now where you just pay attention to your OWN progress and don't look to the side at your competitors/classmates/friends. It will just distract and worry you.

ok, I'm done. 👍

there are some REALLY rude people on these boards lately, jeeze!!! 😡

all of the schools i have dealt with have been more than happy to tell me what is going on with my app. at their school. just call and tell them that you haven't heard anything from them in a while and you wanted to check on the status of your application.

as far as knowing when to worry--- i can't help you there. this is my first time applying, so....i would say as long as you don't have rejection letters from each school you applied to in your hand, then there's always hope :luck: . plus, calling the schools should give you a MUCH better idea of where things stand at each school and make you feel more in control (if that's possible in this process). 🙂

I applied late for last year's cycle (in Sept) and got no responses. I applied earlier for this cycle (June) and have gotten one so far.
So basically my motto is: You live, you learn 🙂 The earlier you apply, the better your chances. Dentistry is super-competitive nowadays. Like a lot of students this year, I was new to the AADSAS application system and the whole 'applying for dental school' business.
I don't understand why certain individuals on SDN have to be so rude in communicating this message. All I can say is that if they have that mentality, they definitely lack compassion.🙄

Hey Passionzfruit~
I am applying this year... and I think I will e-submit by end of this coming week. I am scared that everyone says it's way too late and wait till next year? But I know some people who applied in October last year and still got in (UPenn).
Since we both are from Canada,, which schools are you applying, if you don't mind asking^^;?
And... for last year cycle... which schools did you apply in Sept., and got no responses??!!
I haven't even written DAT yet... well, I have but I got AA17/PAT20/Soap23 for Canadian DAT (Reading 15 ><) so I'm planning to rewrite in November 4th.
I am so stressed out cuz ppl are saying it's too late and all that... but I am only applying to Schools where the deadline is around Feb or May... (like BU.. NYU.. Temple etc). Do I like have Zero chance?! T_T

Just to give you a ballpark... and this is just a personal opinion: its not over till its over. So I've heard of a few lucky people getting in at the last minute. But this is after they went to interviews. Having gone through this before last year, I would say February would be a good time to be concerned if you haven't gotten an interview yet or heard anything. (And its getting earlier every year) I also know with some schools, they would have filled their class by then. After talking with some admissions people, this year has grown in size and the quality of candidates, and there doesn't seem to as much clamouring for a few top candidates as past years. Instead, the pool is large and that means there's more competition for those spots. But I wouldn't worry at all till beginning next year at the earliest if you hear nothing at all. I really don't think there's an exact formula that adcomms go by to pick their students. I still believe there's some luck involved when there's soooo many people applying so, Good Luck!

I'ld agree with Passionzfruit.

What's done is done. Don't worry too much about consequences. Instead, take it day by day. Every day is a new day with opportunity for you to do something, whether completing part of or contributing to an application process or trying to do well on a class.

I also worry a lot but I hope this helps.

if you haven't received any interview invites by Dec, you should def start to worry...you won't get accepted for this cycle. however, if you have interviewed at a school, don't worry until MAY.

gl everyone!

it is a win win. If you dont get in this year you will be ahead for next year. I applied late ( nov ) last year and got interviews at every school I applied to. When I was at san antonio, they said that the previous year a med student got her acceptance letter the day before school started. they also added that they try to avoid such situations but it is possible. yikes. I feel that it is out of my hands now and waiting is all we can do. and of course vent a little on this site and hope someone does not slam us for being a little stressed and looking for comraderie. good luck i am sure it will all work out just fine.
cheers

How much do you think getting 3.8 gpa or higher this semester would help our cases if we havent heard anything by dec., after fall grades (so mid dec). I m sorta working hard this semester to maybe push me over the bubble if i am still not getting much love through dec. do you thikn semester would really make much a difference? i mean obviously it would help, but to what degree? or wil this semester not really matter?
