hey everyone! I'm still alive and loving your posts.

and now for a happy topic...

I'm almost done with my first semester as a P1 and all I gotta say is BRING IT ON!! The whole world of pharmacy awaits me!

Okay laugh at me... I'm a pharm baby - so new and optimistic - I don't know what's coming, right? Whatever! Ignorance is bliss.. 'aint no way I'm gonna burn out! hehe

I love my school... next semester we take micro and physi with the dental students.... HOT D1 guys... 😍

Anyone else doing great? I would like to read some happy stories from pharm school... to inspire the pre-pharms maybe? or to inspire ourselves with finals coming up....

Ahem....don't forget the girls, Nalie! 😉

Have you had ceutics yet? If you can get past that and pharmacokinetics and still be happy, you won't need any inspiration!

Uh oh! The Hokie is back!! At least the 'Canes are still in BCS contention! (Now that I shot off my mouth, watch us blow it at the armPITT of Pennsylvania!) 😉
I still love pharmacy school too in my second quarter!

Maybe a silly question.. but are most dental students (or dents) guys? I know that pharmacy just went about 49% male/51% female, and that med is increasingly female also. Are we seeing the same trend in dent schools? I've NEVER had a female dentist in my life, and come to think of it, I just might like it. 😉 As for not burning out, I'm with you so far (after quarter 1), but I started reading my second quarter syllabus online and it doesn't look nearly as "fun".

Dentistry is becoming more egalitarian. It sounds like we're not as far along as pharmacy, but I think last year's aggregate breakdown was something like 40/60 women/men.

Though I saw a cutie dent girl... I'm looking for a guy b/c I'm still afraid to leave my apt after dark. Need a big strong guy this time! (maybe I can have a boyfriend and a girlfriend? haha in your dreams guys... ok, mine too) I haven't had any luck so far. I don't want to be one of those stupid girls in my class "on the hunt" for a med or dent guy... my only criterion: is he/she cute? But once again, no luck, I need some help?
Yes, for jd, our D1 class seemes to be mostly guys, by a lot... maybe 75% i dunno. Apparently I hear the D1 guys are all about the "cute pharm girls" yay! Though I will say, my class isn't very attractive as a whole... there's about 2 cute girls and 0.5 cute guys. Haha ok I can stop being shallow now. I sound like a high schooler.

'ceutics... I dunno.. Next semester I've got a class called Biopharmaceutics & Pharmacokinetics 4 credits. "Physi & pathophysi" is another tough-sounding class that is 5 credits (w/ the dents). I'm kinda afraid of next semester... but I'm inspired to beat all those dents! 😀

What's everyone's favorite class? I've enjoyed the Neuro section of Anatomy the most. (It was just too cool!) MedChem was another great one but I only got a B. 😡

But now it is thxgiving break and I'm ready to eat me some Hokie bird! Good luck with finals coming up! (If they are)

:wow: 😀 :wow:

How's Richmond, Nalie? I remember you said you had some personal safety concerns with the area you're staying at. Is it that bad after dark?

My personal favorite class so far this year has been "Therapeutic Disease State Management: Cardiology". The pathophysiology and the pharmacotherapeutic management of arrhythmias is cool. Lasts year, my favorite classes were pharmacology and medicinal chemistry.

Your next semester sounds tough, but I'm sure you'll do just fine!

I *think* I'm going to enjoy next semester more....more math involved= something I understand!!! 😀 2 more weeks until finals and I'm going crazy again *runs around in circles*

Classes are fun. I'm working a little more than 30 hours a week though which makes for no life. All I want to do is sleep...which my fiance hates...I think I'm really putting her through the test of love. She's coping well though  .

I really enjoy pharmacology (of course) and medicinal chemistry this year. I think the best part about classes is that they all tie together. Med chem, biochem, pharm, etc all talk about the same thing and reinforce everything. Pharm teaches indications, AEs, etc, med chem let's me see the structures and how things like morphine and cough supressants differ from each other, which I think is also very interesting, and that, in turn, gets tied into the details of biochem. It's nice not to have to get in a set "mode" of studying...I'm also very impressed on how coordinated the curriculum has become. I can say however that I'm not a fan of the fact that the tests are also coordinated in the same week each time +pissed+ . I'm managing though.

Pretty much everyone I've talked to says kinetics is a pain in the ass, especially since it's been so long since they went through calculus 😡 . As mentioned though, I've heard once you get passed that, the worst is probably behind you. Our 5th years have to sit in 4 hour cardio lectures 3 times a week though...i can't imagine how much better that could be😕

Probably my most interesting class is pathophysiology, which continues next semester. It is hard, worth 5 credits, there are 14 quizzes but you can drop your two lowest scores, and 5 exams with no drops. We also have presentations 5 times a year - one for each system that we are covering. Right now, we've been on renal for 2 weeks and will have nothing but renal until the end of the semester. I'm barely hanging onto a B. I need to kick ass on the renal exam.

My hardest class is biochem. I had undergraduate biochem, but it didn't help me much. I barely have a B in that class, too. Next semester will be better, because we get medical microbiology instead of biochem.
