My Rank Order List is still baking in the oven (or roasting or broiling, whatever, don't ask me, I can barely cook ramen noodles). But #1-3 are officially in. #1 is locked. #2 and #3 are currently in a dogfight, fighting desperately for their parents' love. I was blown away by these 3 during interview season, and all for very different reasons.

It feels good to sort of defy the B.S. "rankings" or cosmopolitan "prestige factor" in my Rank Order List. I'm stoked for Match Day now. I've kinda worked my butt off and I deserve to be excited about all this. My top 3 places are KICKASS and I'll feel blessed to match at any of them.

Kudos to those of us who listen to our gut(s). We totally deserve another beer (or 12) for following our intuition.

ha! I was about to post something similar to this...

My rank order is MOSTLY set, but certain programs seem to be moving around in the middle of the list. I've got one program that probably SHOULDN'T be as high as it is on my rank list...it's a small program and it's honestly not a very competitive program (or so it seems) with no shortage of IMGs at my interview day, but it's also in kind of an "acquired taste location", but a location where I have a lot of friends and I find the amount of culture just about right for a small city with bad weather. Other more prestigious (and probably "better") programs are sinking on the list when I'm realizing I have no desire to live there.

My 2-8 are in a dogfight. #1 only established itself after my #1 letter to the PD (but would otherwise be right there in said dogfight). I can't wait till I match at my #9 program after obsessing over 2vs3 and 6vs7 for 2 months.

I'm right there with you. On one hand, I feel very fortunate that I would be ecstatic anywhere in my top 10... on the other, it's going to sting that much more when I fall to 11+.

Same here with my top 8. Definitely better to be in our position than my "Hopkins or bust" friends

One person I know has mayo at #5 with some much less prestigious programs above it. I loved that. Not that I have anything against mayo (another guy I know has them at #1), but still. I like the prestige blow off. Probably because none of them would want me had I applied. 😳

Rank list done and certified as of Monday night. Considering having a mentor glance over it, but I don't think they could offer much. I'm pretty content with it. #4-8 are all about equal for me, I like them all but didn't love them like #1-3. #9-12 all have their positives and negatives, and all fit in the "better than scrambling" category so I'm happy. Put two prelims as #13 and 14... cuz a secure prelim year in a place I've seen beats scrambling to a prelim year somewhere I haven't seen. Ready for match day and the 6 weeks of vacation following it. 👍

I feel lucky. My 5-10 are very obvious to me - it was really just my 1-4 that sort of changed around and thats just because I love all of them.

So as long as I match 1-4 hopefully I won't be in tears on match day 🙂

I feel like I could be very happy matching at any of my top 6 or 7 programs. I'm having trouble ordering them all, but I figure that's a damn good problem to have.

Ironically enough, Hopkins is my #8

It's my #8 too, behind some programs others likely wouldn't rank as highly (BIDMC, Cornell, etc). Still, it's nice that even if we end up at our #8 (heaven forbid), we'll still be headed for an amazing program!

I've tried hard to be relaxed and open-minded about my future, but there will be some tears if I don't get one of my top 2 (due to location issues).

I'm right there with you, except I'm looking at top 1!

That's how I feel about my top 4 or 5. Whenever I'm getting stressed about trying to order them, I just remind myself that it's a much better problem to have than the alternative.

Yeah, I love the fact that my gut made it easy to rank my programs. I also feel fortunate of the fact that I got interviews at places I feel I could truly enjoy. If I get any of my top 7, I will be thrilled.

Made my final rank list the night after my last interview ... it took all of 15 minutes, maybe less. 👍gut👍

I'm still toying with my list but I may end up having Mayo ranked below a "community program." And its not because I wasn't impressed with Mayo, its just that I think i'd enjoy the next 5 years of my life and still learn a lot if I was at this other program  Either way Mayo is going to be ranked below multiple less-prestigious programs on my list.
