Ok, so here's the deal. There are way too many posts on here from people complaining about pharmacy. I want to change the mood here. Can anyone share why they love pharmacy? What your best memory in the field is? Lets here all the good things, the mood on this forum gets too complaint-oriented at times. 🙂

I love pharmacy because...

...it's a reason to put off real life four more years (I'm in school.)

...I have an interesting job (doing quasi-studies, drug info, helping w/ P&T, reading over the IRB's for the investigationals, etc.)

Sure, I have plenty to complain about, but overall, things are pretty cool...but that may be because I'm a green-behind-the-ears P1.

I thought I didn't have to deal with difficult patients anymore and just stand behind the counter/IV room preparing/ dispensing meds (I was wrong hehe😀) oh well..

I dont mind the patients; I fill their rx's, they come in, pick up and go home. I know a good amount of them and refill the rx's automatically. They love it. It makes my life easier and theirs too. It keeps them happy. Now, we fill between 2300-2400 in the off season and will go up to 2600-2700 inseason, so its not like i only deal with a few people; no I deal with a lot of them. The bad part, I hate Gift cards and PCI call with CVS. We make the calls just so that regional manager stays off my back. I do my job and I do it well, i fill many rx's and i make them money. I keep the people happy. all I ask is that they (corporate) leave me alone...

...I always have a crazy story to tell my family/friends.

Best part of retail is getting to see the people a month later when they are doing better, just knowing how things turned out.
Rural delivery service also gets some weird requests for meds as well as candy, magazines, little things a lot of home-bound elderly can't get very readily on their own. It's nice to be able to do this for patients. No, I didn't go to pharmacy school to pick out a specific flavor of sugar-free lifesavers for someone at home with a dry mouth, but I don't mind doing it, hopefully some kind soul is doing this on the other end of the state for my gran.

Every Friday for me.....
Me too. God Bless the 4-day work week.

Aside from that, I love the challenge; I'm always having to learn and think and research. I love working in a multi-disciplinary environment. There's nothing else I'd rather do.

Because I'm a huge nerd.

At times it allows me to be creative.

At other times it feeds my OCD and I can go around and alphabetize/check expiration dates at will.

People bring their pets to the drive-thru and I get to give them a nutritious TREAT!😀

(only if they're well-behaved and their owners say it's ok, though)

Great thread!

For me, you can't beat that warm fuzzy feeling you get when someone expresses how much they appreciate your efforts, whether it's a routine fill or if you went out of your way to do something extra. It sounds cliche, I know, but I really do enjoy helping people, and I enjoy being appreciated for the care that I provide.

A simple, "Wow, thank you so much! You were a great help," 😀 makes my day and can erase a hundred, "What the HELL is your problem? 😡 What's so hard about counting my pills?"

Call me crazy, but I'm satisfied with, excited about, and proud of my career choice!
