Hey guys I am in need of some advice. I just transferred to a 4 yr college last semester and being that I attended a community college I lost many credits and I have to take a math class this semester before I can take any science courses. I am a sophomore at this time. This summer I was planning on taking biology but there is still another math class that is preventing me from taking chemistry in the fall. I wanted to matriculate into dental school by the time I graduate but I am not sure If you can apply without having organic chemistry done or at least one semester completed. I do not know what to do. By the time that I am supposed to apply to dental school as a junior I will only have biology and one semester of chemistry completed. By the time I graduate I'm not sure If I will even be able to apply. I'm really frustrated and it seems that I will have to wait a complete year after I graduate before I can do anything.

Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. You're only a sophomore, take your time and do it the right way. There's no easy way or direct path to dental school. Do well in your classes and focus on maintaining a 3.3 or higher in both science and overall GPA. join your schools pre-dental club, or start your own if your school doesnt have one. I would start building up your resume and extra-curriculars: dental shadowing, community outreach, summer programs at a dental school, research...just to name a few. Your dilemma with the classes at this point is minor. As far as pre-req's are concerned, you can apply to the dental schools, as long as you are in the process of completing those courses, or are planning to complete them by matriculation. Your AADSAS application will have a section for planned coursework. I hope this helps. If there's one thing i want you to take from this reply is "take your time" and do it right the first time.

There's nothing wrong with having to wait a year after you graduate.

I agree with this. You can apply to most schools without having completed all of your pre-reqs -- as long as you plan to complete them before matriculation. However, it'll help if you wait until you've taken at least Orgo 1 to take the DAT (unless you're excellent at self-teaching). So just do your best to excel at the classes you're currently taking. There's nothing wrong with taking a gap year.

Waiting a year is totally fine! Take that time to work, save up some money, travel maybe. I wish I had the opportunity to take a gap year lol

This is why CC should be avoided. Even though it saves some money in the short term, it costs more in the long term with repeat classes and extra years.

I only started my prereqs second semester of sophomore yr and stretched out undergrad for an extra semester to finish the entire chemistry sequence. Take summer classes. You will figure out what you have to do if you really want to get into ds.
