I need help with preping for D-school!

Hey guys,

Im getting ready for the big move to Dschool this year and I wanted to ask some very basic Q......BC i have no Clue what to expect day1. Agh!

What kind of laptop would u guys reccomend me purchasing for lecture? I always attended school old school with notebook paper and pen but I think that will not cut it for the demands of dental school?

What do students wear? Im a female here and Im not sure if I should dress professional or jean and t will do it? Open toe shoes/closed shoes things like that.

I know these questions are very simple but I just want to be as prepared as I can possibly be. If any of you guys have any advice I would LOVE to hear it!
Im very nervous bc Im making a move across the country and I have NEVER been away from home. Thanks!🙂

what school are you attending? your school should have filled you in by now with all of the answers to the questions you are asking.

every school has a different view on laptops, dress code, etc. if these haven't been covered by now, then they will during orientation. all you can do is show up to orientation on day 1 dressed to impress and ready to learn.

Again, I would advise you to call the school and tell them you never got that information

for dress code, most schools that ive heard of have the following code:

1) scrubs
2) professional attire (no jeans or tshirt)

day 1 will usually be orientation day. our school had about 3 days of orientation and most of it was a waste of time. Just dont get overwhelmed in the moment and relax. Everything will pan itself out.

The other 2 days they either go topless, or stark nekked....

So do they guys wear banana hammocks on Monday-Wednesday-Friday, and body paint or naked the other two days? If they do, I can't wait for dental school to start!

When you show up to orientation, I'd play it safe and wear something simple but not totally skanky...maybe khakis and a casual blouse, or a knit top and jeans. You won't be needing your clinical dress code stuff yet...our orientation even went for 2 weeks! People actually wore tank tops and shorts since it was hot.

You should ask your school about the computer in case they require or recommend a particular one. You won't need to take any extensive notes yet, so you have a while to think about it. And I totally endorse paper and pen in a notebook! As long as you're not writing so much that you can't keep up with lecture, computers tend to be a bit distracting. Some classes you'll learn the most from if you put down the pen entirely and listen carefully to lecture (it's amazing what you miss if you try to write everything down.) Then, as long as the profs let you have their powerpoints or write their own notes for the class to have, you can always review it again later.

For those who gave serious responses, Thanks! Yeah they told me everything will be discussed in detail during orientation week, but I just want to get a heads up and start preparing. If i have to buy a laptop, maybe a tablet I should do it now, buy a new wardrobe, stuff like that. Ive always been the jeans and t girl so I really want to make sure I fit in when I begin school. Im just anxious I guess. I am just so excited/overwhelmed so I thought i wold ask people's input. Thanks again for the feedback!🙂
