I just got back my financial aid award and I found out that they are willing to kindly offer me less than the actual tuition for attendance. What do I do now?!?! I am still waiting to hear from the HPSP, but I want to be going to dental school this fall. Yet, I am going to be living on the other side of the country from my family, so living at home is not an option. While my parents make a decent income, they don't really have enough money to help me out. My aid actually covers less then my full tuition, not including books. I really need to know how to continue.

Is the grad plus different then the financial aid?? Sorry for the dumb questions but I have never gone through this process yet!!

Thanks in advance.

That really sucks. Maybe some students at NOVA can explain how they got sufficient aid. I would call your financial aid couselor ASAP and talk to him about it. There should be enough available for you to go to school.

No matter what school you go to, you should be able to get enough financial aid to cover all of your expenses. Your school will give you a grand total of what they believe it will cost you as far as tution, room and board, etc. From this total, you will be getting sub/unsub loans, school loan programs, and private loans. Very few people can afford 100% of the costs of dental school. Talk with the financial aid office to see exactly what paper work you have to fill out and how much of the costs you have to cover with private loans.

Yeah you can only take out like $40000 in the federal loans...but the Grad Plus Loan is different, you just have to fill out diff promissory note and application. Your school should have sent you a letter telling you how much they have approved you to take out and you can decide to take out that full amount(which is usually wayyyy over what you need) or decide to lower it a bit so you don't owe as much once you get out in 4 yrs! Don't worry...call your fin aid office tomorrow and speak with them. Good luck!

Thank you all very much for your advice and support!
