I need help!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Now, now. There was a remarkable degree of restraint and helpfulness in the initial incarnation of this thread.

I think I even offered to study coach the little fella. I was pretty much lying, but still...

What are we defining as a 'positive contribution?' It might be reasonable to say that the reaction the OP got here was the most positive one possible, in light of the situation. He/she may not know it yet, but public shaming is sometimes the most efficient route to getting your life together.

When I started posting here, I got shut down regularly and without much pleasantry. And that was definitely for the best. I was uninformed and not knowledgeable about much of anything related to the content here. Now, I check and double check the things I post seriously, and make sure my factual information is pretty much unimpeachable.

And that's all thanks to folks being mean to me. Yourself included.

This wasn't directed at any one individual. There are a few posts that are borderline. Positive contributions are not troll-like. Being bluntly honest is still a positive contribution, if handled appropriately.

Just a friendly reminder that SDN has had some changes and we will be trying to encourage a friendly, helpful atmosphere (rule #2 of the ToS - "Be courteous and contribute positively. If you’re not contributing to the forums in a positive manner, we reserve the right to temporarily or permanently close your account."). So let's try and be nice in here, even if you don't agree with the OP.

well kids it's been fun.

The fist time I let the bear out and I get slapped on the wrist😳

Your bear seems awfully bunny like to me😀. I think your post fell more in the bluntly honest category as dyachei described. But that is just IMHO.
Well I suppose it is more "bunny like" than some. I don't think I could rank myself up there with Moody and nyanko or even libster....they are the true reality check......

i think i'm going to drop my art history class and retake the D in biology.

and i appreciate all of the advice you guys have given me. 🙂

My only advice from personal experience is to really make sure this is something you want. I don't mean helping animals, that's got little to nothing to do with the core of what you are getting into, which is a medical profession. Do you want to know all about multiple organ systems, how they function, how they can go wrong, to calculate the right drugs, to cut open an animal and have to be able to do that surgery quickly cause if you don't the animal will die. I'm not saying this to discourage you. If all that makes you excited than you can do it, you can raise your GPA and you can get into vet school, we've all faced some uphill battles on here and managed to get into vet school. Just make sure you are picturing the right profession, not the one they show on tv where all we do is play with puppies and kittens.

Good luck to you and I hope you do well this coming semester and figure out the right path for you ... it was hard for me as well.

My first post was immediately SLAMMED by Nyanko (thanks Nyan!)... I too learned from that experience, even though my initial reaction may not have been so pleasant.

Wait wait wait...

You guys didn't lurk first? I learned who the meanies were BEFORE I posted. I was prepared. Kinda.

You are smarter than me...
First I just read all the interview information.
Then I lurked a bit, but didn't pay much attention to the names of who posted.
Then I signed in and posted and learned to pay more attention.

I watched you guys eat a few people alive before I waded in. It took me awhile-- I was scared!

I also refrained from posting in the opinion-y threads until I was fairly established... I figured people would be less likely to talk tough to a regular person who had established non-troll status. I think I was kinda right, judging form the gangbanging DSM routinely received for awhile there.

I picked a fight with that sumstorm lady about vegetarianism in the first 24 hours I was here. It was all downhill from there.

But truthfully, I learned a crap-ton from being eviscerated on this board. The things I thought I knew, that it turned out I didn't... And the few things that i actually knew, or had opinions on, got developed here as well.

I'm very much in favor of the atmosphere we have here now. If you make a claim, you have to be sure that what you're saying is researched, referenced and completely understood. Otherwise, someone is going to get in your face. And that builds character, I think.

I think everyone on this forum should be slammed at least once by nyanko (bow-chicka-wow-wow). It should be our official hazing. Also, twelvetigers should have her own flag.

DSM gets **** because he acts like a giant turd sometimes, not because he's a n006.

Just FYI.

🙂

Well, yes, a turd, but he came in as a guns blazin' newbie know at all. Turd or not, he was going to get a smack down. Now he's just a regular old turd that we're all kind of endeared to and tolerate.

I think everyone gets in a fight with sumstrom at some point. And mostly everyone is polite about this stuff.
