I have been trying to find a DO to shadow for sometime now and I finally found one, but he still hasn't called me back to set up a time. Anyways I didn't submit my aacomas application because I wanted to add my shadowing experience on there. But now I am realizing that my application is getting late and wondering if I should submit the application this week without the DO shadowing experience in there or should I wait to add it on? I mean the schools will receive a recommendation letter from the DO, so is it necessary to have the experience listed on the primary application as well? Can someone please give me advice on what I should do, I really need help! Thanks in advance!!

Don't wait and submit the application now.

Go ahead and submit. Several secondaries have a space for related experience and like you said, they will have the letter from the D.O. detailing your experience.

I never shadowed a DO, but I have years of experience working in an MDs office. I sat down and spoke at length with two DOs who wrote my letters. I also made sure that I was well-educated on what osteopathic medicine was so that I could answer questions intelligently and so I was sure I wan't to go into osteopathic medicine. I would just submit your application and hopefully it will work out. Good luck!:luck:

First, I would find out how important the DO schools rely on the DO shadowing exp. But you can also put on your initial app what your intentions are. These others are right; that is why you get a secondary. I would def. apply right now. " The sooner the better" is a true statement when wanting to have a better shot at getting in. You also might want to call up the schools and let them know what your intentions are.

Good luck bro👍 👍

I did not have recommendation letter from a DO. Some school require it others don't. Just make sure you know what DO is. Sumbit your primary application ASAP.

apply now...you can also mention that you are about to shadow a DO in your personal statement. Also follow up with your DO to schedule time to shadow...they are very buisy and sometimes they tend to forget that applications are time sensitive.

1. I didn't mention anything about DO in my personal statement. I used the secondaries for that...

2. I didn't have DO shadowing experience. I shadowed an MD a summer ago. I did, however, have a DO who knows me well submit a LOR which was resultant of several non-shadowing meetings. I gave him a CV to help with the LOR.

Best of luck!

How important do you feel it is to directly shadow a DO? I have been stressing about this for quite some time as I have not shadowed a DO, hence no DO LOR. I have however worked at a camp for kids with illnesses for two years with a number of MD's many who can supply LOR's for me. Any advice on what route to take...find a DO to shadow just for the LOR or just rely on MD LOR's? Thanks for any advice anyone may have.

It most certainly will help you in the admissions process. I think that the main thing the DO schools want you to know is what exactly Osteopathic Medicine is, hence the requirement of some schools of a D.O. letter to show that you have at least spoken to an Osteopathic Physician. Definetely if you can find a D.O. to shadow and write a letter for you then you should do it. some schools require a DO letter for admission (NSU-COM for one). You could also get a DO letter without shadowing just arrange to meet with him/her for a talk. Good Luck!👍

Thank you all for the advice, I really appreciate it. I am going to submit the application tonight or tomorrow and cross my fingers that its not too late.
