A physician that I work with set up an appointment/tour for me at his alma mater. It is tomorrow, and I'm not really sure what to say so that it isn't awkward or a deficit to my future. I am an applicant this year, and this school is on my list. I don't want them to think that I am over-eager by showing up, but my hands are kind of tied because it was set up by this physician who was trying to do me a favor (I think).

I'm not sure how to approach this. I want to avoid coming off as arrogant during an attempt to not seem over-eager, but I definitely do not want to have them look at me negatively because I am visiting pre-interview invite, etc.

Are there any questions I should definitely ask about the school? It would be nice to make it informative and useful as well. Anyway, I'll appreciate any advice you've got.

I'd be enthusiastic, friendly, professional. If you want, mention how appreciative you are for this and that you hope its not in bad taste considering you are an applicant this year, but Dr so and so was insistent, etc.

Ask what they look for in candidates, ask about the curriculum and how its structured, how research opportunities are presented for students. Ask where the bathroom is when you need one.

Ask questions about the program and seem interested/engaged. And don't forget to smile!

This sounds like a great opportunity. And, I dont think you will appear over-eager just because you are there for a tour. Take this as an opportunity to evaluate what may end up being your future medical school. And, there are some many questions you can ask. Some sample questions below:

-what are the pro's and cons of going to this school?
-what kind of finincial aid do they have?
-Any intresting programs and clubs?
-What is the match list like?
-How are the affiliated hospitals like?
etc etc

Thanks for your input! I appreciate it!
