I was thinking about applying this upcoming 2016 cycle. I will be three years out of college if I were to apply. During these two years, I will have obtained my Masters in Public Health. I was thinking with regards to letters of recommendations, where would I fall within this application cycle. Would I be considered a non-traditional student or would I still fall within a "traditional student?"

Also, in my situation, what types of letters of rec should I be getting? When I was in college I knew I could get it from my natural science professors, but now that I switched degrees, Im curious as to what constitutes good letters of rec considering I dont have any natural science classes.

Most commonly asked for:
-2 science faculty who taught you (math, like Stats, might be used for one)
-one non-science faculty who taught you
-a letter from your PI

If you need to vary from a school's requirements, you'll want to petition to make a substitution, or provide a narrative explanation, if permitted. Commonly used are an employment letter, clinical letter, or volunteer coordinator letter. If you plan to include DO schools, try to get a DO physician letter, too.

I did almost exactly what you did (took 3 years off and got an MPH). You have to check with the schools, because it differs, some require letters from graduate programs and some do not. Additionally I am pretty sure they will still want letters from professors in the sciences, even if it has been a few years.

I personally did not have any letters from faculty in my MPH program and it has been fine with all the schools I applied to.
