I am a Veterinary Technician student. I was listening to two Veterinarians who are teachers talk about if they had to do vet school all over again they wouldn't its difficult and the pay is horrible. It made me question my wanting to apply for pre-vet. Does everybody feel like this or should I not listen to them?

I think that for most, it isn't an issue that the work of being a vet is hard, but that the work doesn't pay as well as it should, given the amount of schooling, the stress involved, and (in the US) the cost of schooling. I have heard from many vets in the US who said they would not recommend vet school now to students because of the heavy debt load - $200,000 in loans can weigh heavily on a person for several decades of their life, at least. I don't think I would have become a vet if I would have that level of debt either (though I am in Canada, where schooling is subsidized and much cheaper).

The debt load and relatively low pay are big topics in vet med. You'll find many people saying they'd be a vet no matter what the cost. Some people forget about vet school when they hear the cost and pay. And others go in with rose colored glasses and come out regretting it.

So you'll have to do your own research, think about your life goals, financial goals, etc and calculate if it's personally worth it to you.

This website has a lot of good information in the folder you can download, as well as in the available tools (especially the "what does it cost" tool): http://iwanttobeaveterinarian.com/ It only applies to the US, though I'm assuming that's where you live.
