Hi everyone, I scheduled to take my very first DAT next Thursday (August 23). Unfortunately, I know that I am not ready due to major slacking off. I am thinking about rescheduling (maybe to mid-sept). Should I just take it on the 23rd to see how it goes or reschedule? I'll graduate next May, so if I reschedule, I may have to take a year off. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd say better to be late and good than early and not as good, but others may disagree.

I don't think you should ever take that test without being really really really sick of studying and feeling like you have seen every type of question possible. Save yourself some heartache later by studying like crazy until mid september and then take it.....

If you're not ready, don't take it.

You can schedule the DAT on your own and take it up to 3 times. After that, you have to get permission. So don't waste one of your shots at it.

Besides, I believe schools have access to all your scores. You don't want them having a prior bad test score. Just study and do it right the 1st time.

I say take it. Youre never really gonna feel 100% ready and taking it more than once if need be is not the end of the world. If you take it now and dont do well then you will have learned a lot for next time. By simply taking the test you will learn a lot about what to focus on. So worst case you take it again next may and do really well because you will have learned from this experience. You might do well this time around and not have to take that year off. If you decide not to take it now, then you will have nothing to build on when you take it next summer, and you may again not feel ready leaving you in the same position. I took mine last december, I didnt feel ready but I took it anyways. I did ok with 18/19/19 but it wasnt what I wanted. So now Im taking it again and I know how to prepare so much better this time around.

TRUST ME, go ahead and take....

I think it depends how ready you feel. If you plan on rescheduling, I'd reschedule even further than a month away and go all out crazy and take it later like in December. However, if you went through some material already, I think the experience you get after taking the test will make your future studying, if need be that much more efficient because you know what to focus on and the type of questions asked. gluck!

Be comfortable with the material that's the best thing for you. If you're stressed about how much you don't know it's only going to hinder your performance come test day. Just relax and try to evaluate what you know versus what you don't know with a clear head.

I agree with Dr.Teeth. You are never going to feel ready for this test.. I too did not totally feel ready and wanted to postpone but didn't and it turned out good. But again, you need to have some reassurance that you know the materials for this test. Good luck to you.
