Greetings,

I'm curious to know how everyone is handling the "I'm very interested in your program" situation. I don't have a clear-cut number one yet, and to make matters worse, I think that I'd be happy at my top 6 or 7. Here's my dilemma - I can't honestly tell everyone that they'll be highly ranked (especially if they end up at the bottom), but I also don't want to appear disinterested.

Any thoughts?

i'd say "i really like x, y and z about your program a lot! they make your institution stand out from the other places i've interviewed at."

that's the best i've got for ya.

Are you all contacting programs to tell them you are very interested or are they contacting you first? I kind of thought it was overkill to suck up to programs again and again....unless they are contacting you as well. And if you guys are contacting them, how so, are you sending letters of intent, emails, phone calls.....

Is anyone contacting programs to tell them you are ranking them highly. what are people thoughts on doing that?

I have, but Im in a quandry over one and two so I've been talking mostly with #2 to see which would be a better fit. I'm still confused.

I've contacted my top 4 and thats it - I don't know what others are doing. I definitely think yo should tell your number one that they're number one.

Good luck June!

Poety, Did you write your top 4 letters? call? email?

Hey y'all,

I am trying to find appropriate language for my top few schools, besides the school I have ranked first. I was saying, "Your program is at the top of my list," for the few at the top, but my husband, always the polite and honest one, feels that that may be misleading. He says I should say, "I am ranking you highly." Does it matter? I don't want to lie. In my opinion, any school that gets an e-mail or letter from an applicant saying, "You are at the top of my list," knows that they are not number one, since everyone spells that out clearly. Hmm. Just wondering on your thoughts. I want to be honest, even though I know all the programs are saying nice things to everyone!!!!!!

Thanks,
felicity

I will say that I have to agree with your husband on this one. If you have already decided on your number one, you can tell THEM they are at the top of you list, number one, etc. For the other programs I would suggest using "very highly" or "highly" depending on their ranks. Hope this is helpful. I have known programs in the past to get very angry with applicants who send them "your the top/Number one" notes if they rank them to match and the applicant doesn't. They have even been known to call your med school after the match as it definitely reflects poorly on your school. So I think that is great that you made an effort to have this clarified and approach the process with integrity. Best of luck to you!!! :luck:

Really Jitterbug? So what happens after they call your medical school? Does your school not let you graduate or something?

Seriously guys.."highly", "very highly"....there is no guidebook on how to interpret this stuff. Its all relative. What if you are ranking 12 programs as opposed to 2 programs.

And what about the programs that say they are ranking us "very highly"- that could be numbers 1 thru 40 for all we know.

Thanks Jitterbug! Exactly what I thought after I thought about it. I replaced the language in those letters, with the exception of an e-mail I had already sent. Take care everyone! Felicity
