I see people with "early assurance" schools. Wondering if someone could elaborate?

Hey Guys, I'm new to this site. Just registered actually. 🙂

Basically, I've seen mdapplicant profiles with things saying "early assurance" and was simply wondering if there was a set of schools that gave that option. Also, I wanted to know a little about it, (i.e. what it takes to do it, (gpa, mcat, etc.), and also which schools actually does it)

Welcome to SDN in the first place, too bad the search function is down, but the program you are talking about has many name to it. BA/MD, BS/MD, Guaranteed Admission, G-Med..... If you google the following string "Medical Guaranteed Admission" you should get a lot of info. Off the top of my head, I know VCU SOM has this type of program.

Most of these programs are only open to incoming freshmen with excellent GPA/SAT score (ie 3.8 un-weighted GPA and 1400-1500 SAT). However, there is another type of program that will let you apply to medical school during your 2nd year of college (you typically have to be their student and again without saying, you better have exceptional GPA or a really soft story). You go through the entire process with interview and everything, if you get in then basically you just have to keep your GPA and do semi-decent on your MCAT (in some program, you don’t even have to) then you are in. The sweet deal about these programs are that they are not binding, so you can even apply out and still know that you will end up going to medical school somewhere anyway so no fear at all, this especially helps if you are taking the MCAT, because you are pretty much relax and chill about it.

I believe you are talking about SUNY Buffalo. It is only open to their ugrad students.

BU has early assurance/action policy for their grad students too. which i find slightly unfair for the rest of applicants, though we did pay like >$30K already.
