So I finally started sophomore year, I got into all the classes I wanted and I am loving most of the material.
I also managed to get actual health related research with a professor and the club I formed is rapidly growing.

I'm very excited about all this but the demands are starting to get to me a little bit.

SO far genetics, physics I and orgo I has just been a bombardment of readings and online HW. Usually this take up hours in a day leaving me little time for much else. (I have both Orgo and Physics labs as well, so a total of 16 credit hours with the research.)

I am also filling out forms and need to get to work on publicizing the new club with posters etc.
And I have some assigned reading for my research which has yet to be done since I did physics all afternoon.

However to top it off, I tried our for a prestigious dance team at my school. I really enjoy doing it with my friends and I couldn't get in last year as it is pretty competitive to make it in. I tried out just for fun not expecting to get in. However the captain invited me back and said I might have a chance if I do really well at the second tryout. I really want to do this and give it my best. However I know my GPA is most important and I don't know if I can handle it. I am very torn about going back to that second tryout. It's a 6 hour a week commitment.

I know there's nothing you guys could do or say that would probably resolve the situation. However I just needed to discuss this with someone if nothing else than to get some feedback or ideas on how to handle all these ECs and research and sciences. Am I really in over my head or could I learn how to balance such a busy schedule without sacrificing sleep/health?

If only there were 30 hours days.:meanie:

Make sure you spread out your homework/reading over the entire week. This should open up some time in your weekends. If your club is growing open up some more leadership positions to spread out some of the work. Also, don't sleep.

I am feeling the same way. I am taking 21 credits this semester. Besides School I have to study for my state paramedic licensing exam, teach math superstars at a local elementary school, and hopefully sometime next month I will begin volunteering as a youth mentor, and volunteering in a free clinic.

I have been counting down the days until this semester ends since the second day of this semester.....

Good luck to you

Are you using time efficently, such as studying between classes, weekends... i seriously doubt that you are studying from when you get out of class til you go to bed as you make it sound. if you don't have time to watch tv or talk to your girlfriend, or go on the computer, then you have to ask yourself what your priorities are?

Less time on SDN = more time for ECs, research, and the sciences.

That's a pretty hardcore schedule. Genetics, physics, and ochem are generally considered the more difficult of the pre-reqs and suggested classes. I took ochem and physics side by side for both semesters along with biology, and I would not have repeated the experience if I had to do it again (after factoring in work, research, etc).

Just make sure you have your priorities in order. Or at least AN order. If the choice is between doing mediocre in your grades but also doing research, I would definitely drop the research for a later date.
