So my GPA is in the low 3.'s and MCAT is a 23...but i have a burning desire to be a doctor. This is my childhood dream. I have done everything in my power to gain more exposure to medicine, shadowing as early as high school. It angers me so much when i see my fellow pre-meds who just a year ago were saying oh "im not sure if i want to do pharmacy, medicine, maybe nursing" those kinds of people getting interviews now. While since childhood, my idea hasn't changed.
So what if i like to party, so what if i can honestly say i enjoyed my college experience? No i didn't spend my college years living at the library. But am i to be punished for wanting to experinece more than the academic side of college?
Now im kinda wishing i was one of those annoying antisocial premeds with a 3.8, maybe then id have interviews. I applied to 35 schools 🙁

wow whoever hacked my account was really racist : X

Wow.

If you really want to become a doctor, you have to own up to the fact that you are in a mess of your own making. Try to get into an SMP program and rock an MCAT retake. If you are unwilling to do that, no adcom will believe that you can handle the rigors of a medical career. Plus, you have given no indication that you can actually handle it. Having fun is fine but not at the expense of getting good grades. Why even go to college? Waste of money.

If you came looking for sympathy or validation, you are not going to find it.

ya laugh kitkat..my stats are close to yours, but ohh look im not hispanic. i bet if i was urm id have interviews by now 2 grrr

Oh. In addition to my previous recommendations, you should probably also try and be less racist if you want to get into med school and become a good doctor.

Plus, her stats are way better than yours.

Thanks Barcu. I'm sick of people making a quick judgement just because of my ethnicity. You don't know the extent to what I've done to EARN those interviews.

Ok, you almost had my sympathy until this comment.

Such is the game of med school admissions. Don't be mad at other players because you come up short.

I believe it. Best of luck to you. I'm sure you will prove that you belong where you ultimately end up.

Ignoring the racism, I'd just like to point out one thing.

If you think a "low 3." (let's assume 3.2) and a 23 MCAT is "close" to a 28-30 and 3.6, you're too clueless to be admitted to a US allopathic medical school. End of discussion. 👎

Also, some of us weren't antisocial and had a lot better than a 3.8. Booya.

Wanting to be in med school < working hard to get into med school

Cough...troll...cough.

you know what angers me? people who say they want to be a doctor and have absolutely no idea what it takes to become one. You, OP are one of those clueless idiots, not to mention a racist idiot. I second the suggestion to lock this thread. This is absurd.

my definition of low 3's is a 3.48..so yes that is quite close to 3.6
and look at the stats if u dont believe me..urms have it good

I almost laughed out loud at that. I agree with IHeartNerds. I'm not sure about GPA, but that MCAT is about a standard deviation from kitkat's. Which is not close. Ever.

All I'm hearing is "I deserve to get into medical school just because I have wanted it for a long time. It doesn't matter if I didn't actually work hard along the way. I wish I had been one of those people who made the right choices in college, but I'm an alcoholic and I'm bitter because I thought admissions committees would appreciate the well-roundedness of my beer pong skills"

True? Maybe.
Relevant? No, worry about yourself.

By the way, it's "I bet if I were URM..." Maybe that explains the low GPA, low MCAT, and general ignorance.

If you wanted to be a doctor so much, why did you throw away your undergraduate education for a few stupid parties? You know, you can still get great grades and get out a good bit. You don't have nearly the commitment you say you do.

being president of your frat and performing in the marching band takes away a good amount of time too...but u ppl who spent all ur time in the library wouldnt know that cuz u havent had any real responsibility

sorry, but the characteristic of others you perceive to be "anti-social" could actually be "sacrifice." they want it so bad, they are willing to do anything, including passing up killing brain cells every weekend, unlike you. in comparison, perhaps you don't want it as bad as you think you do?

others can afford to go out because they don't goof around when they sit down to study. they also don't give themselves only three weeks 😱 to study for the mcat. they are also willing to take a gap year if their first application cycle is not successful.

looking at your past posts, i hope your experiences and current feelings will act as a reality check and a catalyst for change for you.

Plenty of people (myself included) held leadership positions in fraternities/sororities and managed to kick GPA and MCAT butt. Man up.

For the record, I spent less than 20 hours in the library over the course of 4 years. I also made it a point to only touch my notes or a book 4 days per week, so I was taking 3/7 of the days off completely. I still graduated with >3.95, and many others on SDN will tell you similar stories. What's your excuse? You're probably horrible at prioritization, time management, and goal-oriented thinking. Also, you're not nearly as smart as you think you are.

Wow. Your trolling is a solid 8/10. Now only if you could've put that much thought into your academics...

oh ya? well did any of u also work 30+ hours a week on a horse ranch, breeding ponies on top of that to pay for college?

didn't think so

Yep so this is what happens when you leave your SDN account logged in at the medical library. Can someone delete this thread? Although gotta admit whoever posted these is pretty funny.

That sucks dude. I would edit the first post stating what happened and hope everyone is nice enough to delete their responses.
