I cannot seem to finish my personal statement. Wait...."finish" isn't the right word....it's "start'. Yup, that's right. Start. Now mind you, I have a good chunk of it written. I have about 4 different "sections" saved on my computer that when I combine them all together will be a pretty snazzy middle part but I can seem to start the sucker. Now I am damn frustrated and freakin tired of thinking about it.

Allright, sorry. My vent it over. Back to the grind.

thom,

why not put it aside for a couple of days? shouldn't put you behind on amcas and maybe it will give you some time to brainstorm about the opener?

Whatever you do, don't start your statement: "I want to become a doctor because. . ." I heard you get put on the blacklist if you do.

An admissions commitee member once told me the most interesting personal statements to read where the ones that said "this is the reason I want to be a doctor" without ever saying those words. Sounds like a paradox to me.

I went through essayedge and had a good experience with editing. Also I had a book "getting into medical school today" that had some good advice. Bottom line I would say is be genuine, and remember interviewers love to use essay material for interview questions.

How about starting "I've wanted to be a doctor since I was five years old..."
A unique starter like this is sure to catch the eye of every PhD on the admission committee. 😉

don't put a hole in your wall, you'll end up having to pay someone to repaint it or you'll have to go to home depot and do it yourself. at this time of applications, that's the last thing you want to do...and if you put it off, the paint on your wall will yellow and it will be harder to match the colors.

if you're renting an apartment, it might take your deposit away.

i urge you, don't put a hole in your wall!

Don't forget "...because I like science and I want to help people." I hear this is the quick ticket in.

*slap*... *slap*

GET a HOLD OF YOURSELF! You're a grown adult now. Now get back on your computer and finish that statement!

Hope that helps...

And if you're reading this forum, that means you're not working on your statement! So, close down the browser and get back to work! :meanie:
