Just curious as to whether people would like to marry someone from the same field (eg. medicine) or not exactly the same but at least similar field (eg. health care) or completely different (eg. law) or no preference...😉

Law. Not only do I have my own deep interest in the field, prompting a somewhat recent contemplation of pursuing an MD/JD, but I also don't want to come home and discuss medicine for the rest of the night. Contrasting careers would be far more entertaining, especially if some connections were able to be made.

Besides, I'd need a good malpractice lawyer on my side, amirite?

(On a side note, I think I just wrote up a short analysis on why I'd like to marry somebody. Is it sad that it's so technical?)

am I the only shallow jerk thinking model?

Anything NOT health related. I don't think I'd want to come home and have those conversations.

been there and done the model thing.....too much work and crap.

I much rather have a good looking, girl next door type that has a figure and can cook....👍

Yep. I put education but I think I'd rather have law actually. Jumped the gun a little bit.
Free legal advice right?

And I'll take someone foreign. I dig accents. Current fetish are my Iranian friends. 👍

Uh, I have noticed I'm into all these artistic types. Don't know what that means because they are often too cray cray for relationships.

Legal. Hope she won't argue me to death.

Lol..they'll argue with you no matter what..but if they are in law, they'll likely be right every now and then.

🙂xf: hope my wife doesnt read this)

My hubs is an artist/designer. He's not a crazy artsie type by any stretch, though. He's definitely saner than I am, at least.

Law would be ideal, but back up would be medicine in a different speciality than my own. Keep things interesting!! 😉

Nobody listed Engineers. 😳

meh. my dad is an engineer. i was over the two hour lecture about everything once I hit 18. 😉

Congrats to Mrs. Physio Doc! 😀

Thanks, I'll pass that along.

In regards to the OP, I think more than anything, it's important to me that my S/O have something that drives them. I don't care much what it is (law does generate some interesting conversations e.g. where the saying "rule of thumb" comes from) so long as they can relate to the drive, hours and stress that are required to be successful in medicine.

And they have to be funny.

I put medicine, but honestly I don't care as long as she's intellectual and appreciates the dedication medicine requires i.e. she is professionally trained regardless of what field, although I have a slight preference for science.

Engineer chicks are pretty hot.

I'd pick any of the above. I'd want either a professional dancer (not the stripper type) or any sort of professional. I can't really appreciate people of any sort who don't put effort into life. Professionals/athletes/performing artists try hard and I respect that.

Definately education. I want to marry an elementary school teacher so he can take care of the house and kids while I work. That would be a perfect husband.

Finance. Preferably someone who will be a 1st year analyst at a top tier bank while I'm in med school so we can both finish working the crazy hours around the same time

My current boyfriend is in his first year of law school, so I'm going to go ahead and go with Law 🙂

Business or finance simply because I know nothing about either. Basically someone who will know how to buy a house and pay the taxes...

However I find computer scientists the most interesting because they think logically like me.

+1

I don't want a spouse with as crazy a schedule as I expect mine to be. Someone I actually SEE once in awhile would be cool.

My husband is an engineer getting his MBA. Maybe he can help me run my practice 🙂

Law!!! I'm always surprised at how much you need a lawyer to do simple things in our contemporary society...

Although I do not believe in marriage. Let's assume my response counts only as "committed, long-term relationship" with someone in law.

To me, that would be the most unsexy thing ever. Then again, I will probably not have kids. I'm attracted to people who like intellectually challenging tasks and teaching 8-year olds fractions as a career sounds boring.

My husband is into computer science/engineering. I like that we know about very different fields... leaves a lot to talk about, and also, it's nice to have someone around who can build awesome computers and networks. 😛

Ugh what's with all the medicine? You guys want to be surrounded by the same stuff non-stop all day? Only explanation I can think of is the whole nurse fantasy thing which is probably overrated given every single nurse I've ever met.

Maybe you haven't met the right nurses?

Doesn't really matter to me... a doctor interests me as much as a chemist. Engineers would be pretty rad--exposes me to a lot of things I wouldn't know about.

The only requirement is actually having a college degree.

this is exactly what i am blessed with (except that he's going to be a high school teacher) 😍 and he likes cleaning and cooking! i wish you the best also!!! although i am already taken, if i wasn't, i would just say that i want to be with someone who is passionate about something and willing to make sacrifices as i am. and not too materialistic.

i HATE law. ew. i would hate to listen to all that boring stuff. i like teachers best, especially the ones actually passionate about children and who have patience. mmm

school teacher, possibly elementary.....

I've noticed that the young, pretty nurses more often work in the pediatric ward.

I dated a lawyer for 6 years and have had friends who have dated lawyers. The most annoying people to have arguments with EVAR.

Well-educated overachievers who cannot follow a thought to its logical conclusion abound. SDN is a good example of that. I guess I should look for a lawyer since I love debate and rhetoric, but I think you can find intellectuals in any career path, including no career at all.

should've made it multichoice

i said dentistry cuz my gf wants to a dentist.

haha, have you ever tried to each an 8 yo to do fractions? i find it interesting and challenging figuring out how kids think and how to teach them.

for me, if i could choose my SO's profession, it would be education. it could be elementary, high school, university. its stable, less time intensive than mine. it would balance out nicely.

hmm just imagine how much money the couple will bring if they are both doctor/dentist 🙄

teacher is #1.. then nurse, pt/ot.. I don't really care that much, the only profession I would consider a deal-breaker for my spouse is medicine.

There are many types of intelligence. The ability to be a kind, caring teacher and role-model for school-aged children takes patience, dedication, and intelligence and can be every bit as rewarding as a career in health-care imo. Also those are qualities that would make me trust the person to be a good mother.. I'd much rather be with someone who likes talking about art, music, LIFE, love, the beauty of nature, travel, movies ETC, than someone who can critique my management of a patient over the dinner table.
