IA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It all depends on how you frame it. Some schools have an option that is something like "add to your application/anything else we need to know." I wouldn't highlight this incident, but try to explain it in a positive light (what you learned from it).

If you don't demonstrate a pattern of being irresponsible, it shouldn't be a problem

There are a ton of threads identical to this one so I would also do some searching 🙂

What is “medical amnesty”

it will make things harder but not impossible. Especially since yours was freshman year. Also what type of alcohol violation? They can range from possession all the way up to dwi.

I would also recommend refraining from alcohol and maybe going to a meeting or something if medical amnesty means alcoholism.

Good luck.

It typically means that the school forgives the violation

Possession of alcohol freshman year will not make things harder at any school other than maybe Loma Linda.

No way to put this diplomatically but you might not be the best person to be giving advice on what is and is not a big deal for IA's/misconduct...

You should ask your university whether your IA is even considered an institutional action and if it will be reported. You can see here:
"During my freshman year I violated the alcohol policy on campus, but was covered under an "amnesty" policy. When I called the student conduct office, they said it did not constitute formal institutional action and that it was not a reportable offense."

In general, offenses covered under amnesty are either not IAs or only internally recorded and never externally disclosed. Otherwise there would be little point in granting "amnesty".

I haven’t been asked about it once yet. But maybe that’s why I have havent converted to acceptance

I mean... you also said none of your schools have released decisions yet so... I would assume that is the more likely reason you haven't gotten an acceptance...
