I've searched the forums and all I could find regarding the iPad/iPhone are threads inquiring about them prior to a purchase, not apps themselves.

I use several on my iPad and I 'like' them but I always wonder if there are better ones out there for school.

iStudiez Pro - basic class/assignment app (for scheduling; imports from native iPad calendar)
inClass - class/assignment app that you can use to type notes & record lectures (the note feature is cool but you can't use a stylus)
Notes Plus - You can type & write notes plus record lectures (very awesome for notes, export as pdf to google docs)

I'm just not 100% satisfied with these apps and very hesitant to toss more money away to try out new ones. Plus....who ever has enough apps? I'm sure there are lots of good ones for school that I have been unable to find or cost $ that I won't spend as a 'test' to see if I like it. I still need a good pdf one that will allow me to scribble/highlight all over it.
 
Very unrelated to your post but: For note taking and organization, I think Microsoft OneNote on a Windows tablet is still unbeatable (looking forward to Windows 8 slates!)

Capacitive touchscreens are crap for writing and annotating things like PDFs.

Actually, this is related because OneNote is an app. I just searched for and found the app and several others like it that sync to the pc version.

My ipad is actually great for writing and note-taking. I use a bluetooth keyboard and never miss a beat. My stylus comes in handy for other things and isnt crap for writing. I even write all of my papers on my ipad without issue.

I am still curious as to what other, paid or free, apps can be use sucessfully for school. Whether for note-taking, study aids, or organization.
 
I use GoodReader to organize my documents and iAnnotate to take notes on PDF files.
I know how you feel, I initially thought iAnnotate was too expensive and end up wasting a lot of money trying out other PDF note-taking apps. I used that for all of my notes in Inorganic Chem and Physiology cause we get a copy of the lecture slides on PDF. It's nice to have all the notes in color and all in once place when I review for exams. Also, I liked the different colors of book marks to mark stuff for last minute review.

Thanks xD I have seen iAnnotate several times and the cost is what put me off. I would be embarrassed to say how much I have spend on apps since I got my ipad in Jan lol. I just downloaded it. If anything it will be a serious upgrade to the free pdf annotator I am currently using.
 
Use a pressure sensitive Wacom tablet to hand write notes in OneNote and then tell me if the iPad still holds up. OneNote for iOS is very limited without the inking capabilities that make OneNote so awesome in the first place.

I need to make what I have work for me, not spend money I don't have on something new. Which is why I asked about ipad apps. I got this ipad as a gift. If I had a choice it might have been different. Before someone says something about returns, doesn't work on engraved items.
 
Ahh, I see. I guess if you're stuck with an iPad you gotta make do with what you got. I was just trying to say that for the purposes of note-taking and organizing notes, there are much better options than the iPad.

Just an addendum to my previous post for the sake of being more concrete, here's an example of my notes on an Wacom Penabled tablet and OneNote (click for PDF):


Back to your question: for the iOS, I've used Evernote and OneNote to sync my text-based notes, images, web clippings, audio clippings, etc. onto the "cloud" (so I could sync them across other devices). They were free and did a decent job.
 
I must say, such nice handwriting! If only I could write as well as you! Long years of using a keyboard can ruin anyone's handwriting...

Your example actually looks very close to my Notes Plus app. Mine just just aren't as legible lol! I would kill to be able to use OneNote on my iPad, however there is only an iPhone app for it and it doesn't accept stylus work 🙁 Maybe if they get around to an iPad version it will :xf:

I do use Evernote, but mostly for writing ideas down. It is a wonderful app, though for taking actual notes it really misses out on features. I use it too keep track of story ideas for my personal writing projects.

I guess I'll stick to what I have and play around until I find a setup that works for me. I'm still waiting for firefox to come out with their iPad browser...patiently waiting.

Once upon a time I used some flashcard app, but found it was more trouble to enter the data than it was worth. I would be interested in something similar or just overall great study aids if anyone has experience with them. There are too many apps and too much junk on itunes to find anything actually worthwhile.

I'm surprised you've had success with an iPad stylus. I tried so many of them before quitting! Which one are you using?

I've always felt traditional tablets have been seriously underrated.

Pogo Sketch. I got it b/c it was the only pink one I could find. Pink for breast cancer not because I'm a girl xD

It has lasted me six months with no issues so far. It is so small that I almost thought I lost it once. I haven't tried any other stylus so I don't know if this one is better or worse than others. It responds well on my iPad and writes very smooth.

Idk, OneNote 2010 seems pretty efficient. <50MB memory usage when it's full fledged (inking), 25MB while it's not inking, and 3MB when it's minimized. In comparision, a fresh Google Chrome instance takes up >50MB.

I only took these colorful notes for the MCAT. My notes for classes are non-existent. I promise I'm not a gunner.
